Have a number of old stones inherited over the years and all badly hollowed out. Bought this and a cheaper Japanese stone set kit that has a flattener stone included. Both appear to be the same stone. Will use them and my 400-grit diamond stone for comparison. Have tried sandpaper on a marble floor tile to stay flat and it worked but took forever. Hope these are faster.

Actually use the laying Stone more than the whetstone. It's mostly because we have more than one of these and they seem to work efficiently. I wish I had the diamond version of the sharpener though.These Stones aren't so much for sharpening as they are for building a foundation before you sharpen. I think they're worth the money but I can't remember what I paid for them. It's lasting me more than 4 years and the durability seems to hold up. All these stones have a learning curve but once you learn it it's not that bad.
