No issues using this with an optical drive and a spinning mechanical hard drive.Haven't tested with an SSD.Speed is the same as the ports on my motherboard.

This has been working well for me for a few months, but I've noticed that once I start to use my HDDs/SSDs too heavily, the card crashes and does not allow access to the hard drives. Even on reboot, the card stalls on the BIOS screen and the computer won't boot (a full power down is required). If very light use is required (with only 1 or 2 drives attached), this could be more functional.

I had 3 external drives on my current setup. Bought a larger case with more drive bays and added this card to my motherboard. All drives are detected and SATA speed transfer is up to par.

Needed some extra SATA ports for HDD. Not sure the rated speed would be good enough for SSDs. I installed the card on a PCI Express X1 port, connected the SATA cable and it worked like a charm. No drivers, no fiddling. Did a few test copies and file transfers on the HDD and it seemed plenty fast. We'll see if the durability holds up!

It might be a good card for a Windows machine but I could not get it to work with my Linux system. The online description stated it was Linux compatible but the insert that was packed with the card said it was only compatible with several version of Windows. If you're using Linux, do not bother with this card.

I needed something to be able to plug more hard drives into my unraid server. Added it to my pc and it immediately picked up every drive plugged into it and hasn't had an issue. Speed seems to be the same as plugged directly into the board, but as I am using this for file storage it only has spinning drives so I can't say whether it is as fast with a SSD. Overall I would recommend this for the price and ease of use.
