I have always enjoyed listening to Johnny Winter. I am now 66 years of age and began listening to him as a young teenager. His guitar playing and his voice are unique. No one can sound like Johnny Winter.I had the chance to see Rick Derringer and Edgar Winter way back in 1974. Who today even compares to these past musicians?

His first but certainly not his last. Blues rock at it's best.

Manager Steve Paul combines two acts and comes up with this gem. Johnny and Derringer team up for some magic, with Derringer penning a few originals including the first version of "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo". Dueling guitars (crank the end of "Funky Music" to hear Derringers Ampeg labouring under his workout). Ricks brother Randy Z, pounds the skins in his swan song as a rock star (wrote a tune as well) and Randy Jo Hobbs starts to show his evolution as a blues and rock musician. Mark Moogy Klingman (later of Todd Rundgren fame) loans the tune "Ain't that Kindness" and plays piano (uncredited). The only thing keeping this from a 5 star review is the original sound engineering had some issues with clipping on some guitar parts and a ton of reverb, but it remains true to the era in terms of style.

4 stars because it's a must-own gem of an album. Minus one star for an absolutely atrocious digital transfer. Get the re-mastered version if you can find it. This offering from Columbia suffers from absolutely sucky audio. It's a really really bad job. I had the vinyl back in the day, and it sounded superior in every way. The remastered version is bundled with the live disc (just like my very old vinyl version !).

I once bought this LP and loaned it to a friend? He left it under his bed where it ended up over the hot air vent thus getting ruined. I never replaced it and indeed I forgot I had even owned it until I saw the cover art in AMAZON.CA. Again I have managed to buy back a piece of my history that I had lost, a piece with some great cuts on it...Tim
