Using a fine grit stone to polish your edge can actually help to make carbon steel knives more rust proof. This whetstone has been baked and is porous so should be soaked in water until the bubbles stop surfacing. King is one of the top choices for sharpening stones among chefs in Japan. I've been using this stone for about 6 months now and have used it dozens of times to sharpen a number of different types of knives, from butcher knives to bushcraft knives to small pocket knives. This stone does exactly what it's supposed to do, and well. It feels high quality and the grits seem fairly accurate to what they're claimed to be - the 1000 side sharpens, while the 6000 side polishes. I often find that I don't need to use the polishing side to get an acceptable edge if I'm in a hurry, but after a polish the blade is sharp enough to shave with. It produces a nice slurry as you go, and has not deteriorated or begun to dissolve with usage like some of the cheaper ones tend to do.Overall a great product, would buy again.

One of the corners was chipped when received but figured it was more of a hassle to send back and wait even longer for a new sharpening stone when I needed it immediately.I'll write another review after some good use.

One of the best Whetstone you can buy for a budget. Good bang for your buck. Comes with two Whetstone together. 1000 Grit and a 6000 Grit both Stone are easy to use but it is not the stone to sharpen the knife it is the skill so be prepared for trial and error. I eventually develop a skill and cut a mirror finish on my blade I'm very happy. The sharpness with crazy razor sharp it cut newspaper effortless. I would recommend this Stone the KDs over the 65 Kings.

After watching a few you tube videos on how to knife sharpen, I'm starting to get the hang of it but it's an artform for sure. These stones are great for a beginner like me and my knives have never been as sharp. The act of sharpening is a bit theraputic so happy sharpening!

First time buying and using a sharpening stone. I managed to sharpen my kitchen knives without any issues. The stone I received is exactly as pictured. No cracks, it was in great condition. Worked very well.

Came with one corner on the 6000 grit side chipped, disappointing but still useable. Other then that it is a great stone, took my work knife that I use to cut drywall from being duller than a butter knife to razer sharp after about 1 1/2 hours.

*update, broke during the second use.Decent stone, fast shipping, but very soft stone, I sharpened a quite soft steel knife (55 HRC) but still, the stone did not seem to hold against the knife.
