The first box I received was badly damaged and crushed. Inside there were only the 3 small mounting brackets, no screws and the main tool, the cane bolt was missing. I returned the original damaged manufacturer's box in Amazon packaging as is and requested another shipment. The second shipment was perfect, nothing was missing inside the box. I installed this hardware on my shed door to keep it securely open because my backyard is in a strong wind corridor. 100% satisfied.

I knew when installing this, because I've used smaller ones and less sturdy ones before for other applications, the two guide pieces must be mounted perfectly in line in order for the rod to easily slide up and down, or sideways if you're mounting it horizontally. If it's off just a little bit in alignment it's difficult to move the rod which is the situation which I ended up with. I didn't need this thick, sturdy of a rod but I needed the length. I used this to hold open a door in a storage area under my 6' elevated deck with a trex dry system. That is why I rated it three stars regarding easy to install. I do give it a four with regard to easy to use, BUT if the guide brackets are not perfectly in line, you'll be rating it a two or a one star. If they're perfectly aligned, which is hard to do, then you will be rating five stars for ready to use. This is definitely sturdy. Been using it for about 60 days with no sign of rust. The door has been open when it has raining so there has been rainwater on it a few times. I have a plastic pipe in the ground that sticks up out about 2 in above ground, into which I drop the metal rod (to hooked the door open when the wind blows). I used a 1-in. plastic pipe, but I wish I would have just used a 2-in. or at least 1 1/2 in. diameter pipe. That way it's easier to lift the bolt from its top holder drop it into the pipe in the ground. With the one inch when you kind of have to be more precise, making it slower, taking up a little more of your time.
