When looking up replacement lasers for 75000 series PS2s, PVR-802W was listed as compatible. Sure enough (despite the warning in the item description) it works great! I checked the potentiometers before installation and they were good as is. No adjustments were necessary. Although that may not be true for all of them, it was for mine. Now I’m able to play all the games in my library again! :)

As stated above. Installed correctly, was definetly the right part for the job, still failed after a week anyways.

This thing doesn't even come close to fitting my 70001 PS2.

Ive ordered 3 of these lasers, the first one seems to be working fine on replacement. The second one I installed was able to read the purple CD based ps2 games but would not read silver dvd games. There is a chance I may be able to fix it by doing the potentiometer adjustment (will update on that), but these lasers should not need such adjustments new out of the box. May have to return the second one yetUpdate: returned 2nd laser and ordered a 3rd with the same results. No amount of fiddling with the potentiometer would bring those 2 back to life. 33% working rate.. Information online indicates ordering ps2 lasers are about a 50/50 crapshoot whether they arrive DOA. I am going to try another seller at this pointUpdate 2: I figured I would leave this information here for anyone looking at replacing their laser. Although 2 of the lasers I ordered here did not work on install, the 4th from another seller ended up working, BUT, it was mentioned to TEST THE POTENTIOMETER before installation. I did not do that on the 2nd and 3rd laser here. The 4th laser from another seller was way off on the initial readings, and I adjusted it before installation and testing, and it works fine. There is a possibility that you may be damaging your laser before you even figure out if it was faulty as these do not all seem to be properly calibrated "out of box". Beware.

Very happy with the product. Used for a 75001 PS2. Followed a YouTube video and it worked perfectly. Note: it has a really small black plastic piece on a hinge at the ribbon cable connector to secure it. Took me a bit to figure that out. And you have to desolder the bead. Also on YouTube. I know nothing about electronics and was able to do it.

Besides having to desolder with makeshift device, works well and easy to install.

The original laser stopped reading DVD games so I purchased this laser to make the repair. It was an easy project to repair and the laser works perfectly.

Fast ship. Works perfectly with initial 30 minute testing, all cinematics fast and crisp, PS1 and PS2. Sounds a little funnier moving sometimes under there, not sure what thats about. Desolder point was easy with the cheapest soldering iron. I did have to buy a PH000 size phillips head, all my minis and eyeglasses were only small down to PH0, so had to go back to parts store twice.Do it, its easy. Cheers

My son an I replaced this unit on an old PS2, and it worked no problem. That was last summer...he has PS4 but loves the PS2 retro games, so the PS2 has been well-used since we made the replacement, and zero issues so far!

The laser works perfectly. With PS2s it's common to get refurbished lasers which are dead, iffy or slow to read, but this one works 100% as it should. Recognizes discs pretty well instantly, just like an original +laser.

Im no electronic expert but this is such an easy fix that i had to try it. Everything was easy to take appart and reassemble, and since I don't have any equipment i removed the soldering thingy with a nail and a butane lighter. Now i can go back to play my childhood classics!

I just recently bought a ps2 system and games for a crazy deal recently. I tried out the games and most did not work. I was devastated. I searched YouTube on possible fix solutions and decided to repair the laser.I’ve ordered lasers in the past on eBay, but most had the solder ball still attached. I never was able to get a laser swap to work out, so I was a bit optimistic and decided to order this laser based on so many great reviews.I accomplished the whole swap with a single very tiny Phillips head screwdriver with a magnetic tip. I’d highly recommend using a magnetic tip screw driver because these screws are super small and I doubt you could buy more at a local hard ware store.Anyways, in total you had to remove 9 screws and disconnect the ribbon cable. You also have to swap over the track from the cd drive, but that’s only one screw. The swap was so simple. I am confident to say that just about anyone could accomplish this with little to no experience. I found a great tutorial on YouTube to help with the installation. Watch the whole video first before tackling this project. Now, my ps2 reads all of my games including discs that are rough underneath! It’s unbelievable! I’d recommend this laser to anyone who wants to fix their ps2. It may be a little bit more expensive than other lasers, but it’s literally plug in and play. No soldering needed.

A few weeks back I bought a PS2 slim (75001 but this product can work on multiple slim models) from half-priced books to replace my old "Fat" model. When I got home to test it out I found that the laser unit could only read PS1 Discs. I tried all the usual steps; air dusting, a careful cleaning with isopropyl alcohol but alas, no dice. So, not wanting the thing to go to waste, I picked up this replacement. The installation process was very simple and straightforward, the guide I found on YouTube got me through the process in under 10 minutes. The best part about this particular laser unit is that the anti-static point that you may have read about needing to desolder has already been removed, so if you don't have a soldering iron there is no issue. I would, however, recommend using a set of Phillips eyeglass screwdrivers as the screws you are dealing with will be very, VERY small. After closing the console up, I plugged everything in, and tried out my test games (Syphon filter for PS1, Ace Combat 4 for PS2), each were read in under 5 seconds. The unit has been going strong ever since.Overall, this is a great unit to buy if you are having issues with disc read errors. The PS2 is a great piece of hardware with a stellar library, but many units are getting on in years and will start to have problems after awhile. That is why I'm so pleased to see an easy fix to one of the most common hardware issues on the system. This product will keep my console running for years to come.
