Ordered this RAID card for vSAN testing. Out of the box, it didn't see any of my disks. Needed to change the system to EFI mode to enter the RAID menu linked out of the BIOS. If I created an array for the disks, I could see them. Deleted the array and rebooted, system didn't show the 4 drives.Booted ESXi and installed LSI storcli utility. Using the utility I changed each of the drives to jbod mode (storcli /cx/ex/sx set jbod). Once I did this, they became available in ESXi.To update the firmware to the latest version, download the IBM/Lenovo Linux update package for the controller. Extract the update package to find the .rom firmware package. Using the storcli tool, flash the card with the .rom file and reboot. I flashed the card under Linux with the storcli tool installed but you can do it under ESXi or Windows as well.Overall, this appears to be a good card with lots of capabilities. I plan to use it as is for my lab testing.

This works very well as with the RAID numbers it comes with, however don’t expect to use the Feature on Demand process to activate upgrades. Unless you are using it in select Lenovo/IBM servers using IMM Lenovo will sell you the upgrade but will not provide the activation code to use it (and, goodbye to $50 for the upgrade, no refunds).
