I was building a new PC and the MSI motherboard required an 8 pin and a 4 pin power plug. My power supply had only the 8 pin and even new ones I saw had one or two 8 pin plugs. This let me use an old four pin power lead for pre-SATA drives to provide the 12 V 4 pin plug for the motherboard. Worked fine. Had a bad moment when I noticed two of the wires came off the same pin on the power lead but it was normal and it caused no problem.
