My ceiling fan was a Harbor Breeze bought at one of the main home improvement storesIt suddenly would not shut off with the remote and only worked on high while it was on with the wall switch. The remote controlled the light features fine but would not respond to any of the other two speeds. So essentially if I wanted the light on in the room the fan would turn on as well at full speed without being able to control speed or not able to shut fan off. I googled for a fix to this problem and the majority of solutions was replacing a bad capacitor. The most important part in replacing the capacitor is replacing it with the same specs or as close as possible to the one you're replacing. I brought my fan down and opened it to check specs on faulty capacitor and ordered this capacitor with the same number of wires and specs. Replacing was easy I just cut the wires to the faulty capacitor as near to bad capacitor as possible to save wire length for the new capacitor. I attached the new capacitor using two wire nuts (make sure you use the correct size not too large or too small wire nut), put everything back together and fixed my problem. I know have my fan working properly all three speed are available and can be shut off while using the light or no light and fan only. The correct capacitor with same specs is key to protect your motor from overworking or under performing.
