I use my bike as primary transport in a major Alberta city year around, to the tune of 3400 km+ a year. All year around, commuting, in traffic. I've ordered several sets of brake pads through Amazon in the past few years, some better than the SRAM factory pads, some very close. All, were a significantly less rapey of a price than the SRAMs.These just arrived today. Usually, I'd need some time to evaluate a set of pads. Not with these.The first thing I noticed, is that unlike any other brake pads I've ever purchased, these did not come with a replacement split pin, or other retention device. Best practices require that the split pin be replaced with the pads. Good thing I have spares.The second thing I noticed, was the complete absence of any brand, manufacture, or production batch markings. None at all. A suspicious person might think this was intentional, to duck any liability issues...The third thing I noticed, was that on the first pair I inspected, there was a visible difference in the amount of pad material on the backing plates. I decided to check more closely, as the new pad appeared to have barely more meat on it than the one it was supposed to replace.Using a digital micrometer, I found the total thicknesses varied between 3.18 and 4.17mm, across the 8 pads. According to the SRAM Service Manual: " Brake pads must be replaced if the total thickness of the backing plate and pad friction material is less than 3mm."I individually measured each pad, and paired them as closely as possible, and during this noticed that the pad material on two of the pads was grossly mis-aligned on the back plate, not matching the position on the other pads, or even each other. These pads, if used, would result in uneven wear on the brake rotor (expensive to replace), and a lack of contact between the pad and rotor. ( poor braking performance ).This leaves only 3 out of four usable pads, and that is if I remove some material from one pad with a file, to match the thickness of the other. Otherwise, I'd only have 2 out of 4 usable sets of pads.At the very least, these are a poor value, potentially damaging to other components, and at worst, these are BRAKES, the things that will stop you, hopefully before the guy in the pickup truck, texting his buddy runs that red light, and converts you to paste. The most important component on a bike. A life could depend on these being manufactured to a minimum standard.Avoid these, they are no bargain at all.

Perfectly Form-Fit with my original Avid pads. The reason for a 4* so far is that I only have a couple of weeks of use and cannot yet comment on durability but the price is right for two replacement sets that are still lower cost than the original pads. I should come-back later-on with a durability review ">

Avid brakes make a mouse sound when they get warmed up with metallic type pads. I don't mind the sound, especially when organic pads are 3-4 times the price.
