This level is exactly what my husband was looking for (he's a machinist). Accurate and well made. The box it came in... not so much. The wooden box it comes in is too flimsy for the weight of the level. It was broken when we took it out of the cardboard box. Would have given a 5/5 rating but we need the wooden box for storage. We will have to fix or find another alternative.

Once you calibrate, it gets the job done. Cant find any obvious issues with it.

If you’re in a rush this is not the level for you. It needs to be calibrated, and levelling to this level of precision is a slow process. That being said my lathe has never worked this well period. I was also able to take the twist out of the table of my old jointer.

Dont buy if you're a machinist. It's a level that never stays level.CONS: I don't mind having to calibrate the level, but it constantly lost it's precision even if it was moved ever so gently. I believe the adjustment mechanism is not designed to hold tight tolerances. Also, the bottom is not precision ground.PROS: It's the body was a clean cast. It's actually very sensitive which great, but again it can't hold the precision for long.Go with a Starrett level and be done.

I bought this to set up and level my Mill. Box came completely destroyed, but I glued it back together. I didn’t take a star off for that since most stuff from overseas comes in crappy boxes and holders. It’s the China way. The level itself is very sensitive and looks to be very accurate. Bottom is machined nicely and overall the level is very heavy. It’s expensive for what I used it for but I had to have it.

Very accurate! I had a buddy who was a millwright that brought over several starrett machinist’s levels when we were setting up my mill. We went ahead and used his for the set up ...because Starrett...and afterwards he wanted to mess with this one for gits n’ shiggles. It took about 3 minutes before he was saying “Wow, we should have used this!”It’s heavy, fully encapsulated(helps with temperature fluctuations from just touching it) and has nice slow/smooth settling time. The only knock he gave it was the adjustment screw being a Phillips head, so you had to push down on the screw to make adjustments which made it a little difficult. Well worth living with for the price! This is one of those purchases where you are still high-fiving yourself years down the road for making a good decision and saving a bunch of money in the process.

Its a nice looking level. I opened the box to find instructions stating I needed to find a precisely level surface to calibrate it................WHAT DO YOU THINK I BOUGHT THIS THING FOR???????MAYBE PRECALIBRATE IT BEFORE SHIPPING????????????????????

User adjustability is not a good feature. Should be calibrated but isn't. I was not able to get repeated measurements no matter what I did. I returned and bought a Starett level. This one is a waste of time.

I am using the level to set up my home lathe, surface grinder, surface table. The quality is good - the base is ground cast, the calibration screw works well, the wood box is nice. If I was doing this as a profession I might go for a Starrett but only because that is what the clients expect. I don't really see spending three times the money for the same accuracy - it is really up to the proficiency of the user.

It is a generic probably Chinese brand. However, it does the job. It is very sensitive even to a paper sheet and takes a couple of hours to calibrate it. The pros: it works great and does the job, relatively easy to calibrate, nice wood case, it comes with a key for calibration. The cons: it needs to be calibrated every single time you need to use it. So overall I'd say you get a good bang for the buck but if you are planning on using it on a daily basis you may want to consider a Mitutoyo which costs about $500. It's your call.
