This pump is reasonably compact which made it easy it install out of site under the battery box of my 68 B-body. As the engine only has 7 inches of vacuum at an idle I needed a vacuum pump in order to have the power brakes function properly. The pump runs very efficiently and quietly enough that I barely here it run up to 20" of vacuum before I start the car. It functions just as it should, running as needed to operate the brakes and shutting off when not needed.

Great. Produced enough vacuum to operate my brake booster. It is for a toad I pull behind my motorhome. Installed a vacuum switch and powered up from motorhome so the car battery stays charged when we are towing.

I bought this vacuum pump to add to the braking system of a 1977 corvette that had a high horsepower 383 installed. The motor produces very little vacuum for the vacuum assisted brakes. This pump, along with a vacuum can and several vacuum check valves, restored my braking power. You NEED to use a vacuum switch with this product, otherwise it will continue to run continuously and burn up. When I turn on the ignition, I can hear the pump run for about 5 seconds, then it shuts off. This lets me know I have about 17 inches of vacuum available for the brakes. Once the engine is running, I can't hear it anymore. I also plumbed in vacuum from the engine (at best 11 inches) so the pump gets supplemented with engine vacuum when it is available. This pump, a vacuum switch, and a relay cost around $150 total, which is less than a complete system from Summit or Jegs. Works good. I hope the pump lasts a long time. There is a logo on the pump that says "Hella" so I'm sure this is the same pump used on a lot of European cars that require a vacuum pump. The trickiest part of this pump is finding a good way to mount it.....you definitely want to use the rubber bushings to mount it to reduce noise and vibration.

I bought this for my 72 GMC K1500, my engine has a large cam and doesn't produce much vacuum for the power brakes. I purchased this with the suggested vacuum switch and it works excellent! Better brakes than ever! It produces a lot of vacuum very fast, it's very quiet and smooth running. I connected it directly to my battery to get the most amperage I could then bought a relay connected to a key switched circuit in the cab so it only runs when I'm driving. I would definitely recommend this pump and switch for anyone needing vacuum for brakes. I use the vacuum pump alone meaning I no longer have the manifold vacuum connected to the brake booster. I would recommend getting a vacuum canister as well, found one on Amazon for around $20. I'm very satisfied!

I installed this on a supercharged muscle car. I don't have much time on it yet but it seems to work fine. Keep in mind that this pump has no non-return valve in it. You will need to add a check valve to make it work properly.
