This is an expensive bonded elliptical in the MM class, just over the Goldring 1006 for a replacement stylus for example. But in my opinion it is one of the best Audio Technica nobody knows about, out there. I have had a XP-5 hence this comparisons.Less overhang, it is definitely less warm but it provides an incredible precise sound with plenty space.Surprisingly neutral, the XP5 is brilliant and the XP7 provides more top end indeed, just as it says in the tin, but it never gets tiring, bright or harsh, for those who avoid AT cartridges you need to try this, as you can add it to a simple VM95 body.I also compared it to a VM95EN stylus on the same XP5 body an the results were the opposite to expect it, at the beginning they sound almost identical but the XP7, which should be inferior, does not get tiring while the VM95EN does. As I do not have a digital interface so I have no idea if it ir more neutral or just roll off at the right place, however you will just love it.In this case more expensive does mean better, if you can live or need 3 gr of VTF, this is a brilliant choice.As final information I believe real compliance is around 10/11 cu @ 10 Hz by hi-Fi news album test, that means it’s easier to match to the technics 1200 than the xp5/3.

It sounded terrible on my project debut iii replacing the ortofon om. Very muddy sound, lost clarity, power, dynamics.........just very bad.On this turntable i previously tried the audio technica 95, the green one, without problems. It sounded bright but not problematic like this one. I wonder if there was a problem with alignment or the connection........!!!

Been a long-time Shure M44-7 user; since the early 2000s. First got into HiFi carts when I purchased a Denon DL-110; which I still love (got it retipped by Soundsmith w/ ruby cantilever and microline diamond). My current go-to is the Nagaoka MP-150, which is also amazing; and I have a spare mp-110 replacement stylus that I tried out on it (comes VERY close to being as good as the mp-150).In looking to replace the M44-7s with something with better sound quality, I came across the AT-XP7. The M44-7s use a conical diamond which is more forgiving with beat up records, great on record wear, tracks great with scratching; sound quality just isn't great though (i.e., lacks high end detail, sibilant).In contrast, the AT-XP7 with the elliptical diamond has given me great detail in the highs and mids. Not sure what to make of the bass yet; there's a lot there but I don't know that it is as detailed and tight as with the MP-150 or the DL-110. I'm sure it'll sound great at the club though. Overall a major improvement over the M44-7s. I've used these on hip hop, house, funk/soul, and jazz records. I really do love them and they will be my needle of choice going forward for all-vinyl sets; will keep the M44-7s for Serato sets. Haven't really scratched on it, but it's been fine in cueing.My system consists of 2 Technics SL-1200-Mk7s, Rane Empath rotary mixer, McIntosh MC-275 mk VI; and Klipsch Cornwall IIIs.
