From the Manufacturer
The puttee originated in India, where it was used as a traditional leg wrap when encountered by British troops.

Why it is important ?
Several purposes
The puttee was implemented to be wrapped from the heel tightly to just below the knee in attempt to provide a seal to keep water out of the boot.
It was also intended to give soldiers added leg support and protection from hazards on the battlefield and in a pinch as a bandage if needed.
- They kept your legs warm and you could also changed them much easier.
- The use of leggings allowed the US Army during WWII conserve leather by being able to create low cut boots that still kept the debris, snow, and mud out of their pant legs and shoes.

Dimensions
- These puttees sizes are 96 inches in Length and 4 inches in Width.
- Sufficient for wrapping leg from knee to ankle.
Other Names
For covering the lower part of the leg from the ankle to the knee alternatively known as: legwraps, leg bindings, winingas, or wickelbander.

Puttees colour
- · US OLIVE COLOURED wool puttees were widely worn with ankle boots.

Why would purchase ?
- The reason they took them up was that they were comfortable and cheap.
- They provided support when walking & protected against harsh weather conditions.
- They provide leg support, and protect the lower legs from scratching by rough undergrowth, thorns and brambles, which would also rip long trousers.
- They also keep mud off trousers.
- They are more flexible than stiff high knee length boots, and better for marching long distances.

Do’s and Dont’s
When wearing the puttee they should be snug, but not so much so that circulation is cut off or that they are uncomfortable. Also as already pointed out the leg of the breeches should be pulled up enough so that they are laced at the calf. If not, you will notice an uncomfortable tugging on the legs of the breeches.
- Before putting your puttees on make sure your breeches are comfortably, but snugly laced at your calf. If not, once the puttees are put on you will find them tugging uncomfortably at the legs of your breeches
Pros:
- Covering both shoes/boots tops and trousers bottoms.
- Simple and battle-tested.
- Indestructible.
- One size fits all, close fitting.
- Tall and slim people can use shorter trousers, which are easier to find.
Putting on Puttees
- 1) Roll up the puttees.
- 2) You may find it comfortable to prop your foot up on a bench or a box.
- 3) At the boot top fold the puttee so that you can start wrapping it around your leg.
- 4) Once you have made a couple passes around the top of the boots, continue wrapping the puttees.
