This is exactly what you'd expect it to be - one of those flat, rubbery bases you'd use in practice. This base fits perfectly behind a standard home plate, extending the strike zone for recreational softball games. Just be ware - this thing will have a strong rubber smell when you take it out the first time, so consider giving it some time outside to air out before putting it into storage!

Just as described and very durable for practice. Great color. Only drawback is that the width is narrower than the defined strike zone where our tournaments are played (2 in. short both sides).One warning: Do not allow anyone with metal cleats near it as they'll poke holes in it. One of our players bought metal cleats not knowing they're not permitted in the tournament. His cleats damaged most of our practice bases--particularly first base--though this review only applies to the home plate extension. However, the extension fared better than the softer practice plates purchased from Dick's Sporting Goods.
