Great quality! Convenient for large events or family gatherings. They are large enough to serve salad or bowls of soup with garnish. If serving wet or hot food, yes, you should double the bowl, and for extra measure, you can place a plate underneath the bowl so that your hands aren't directly touching the hot food, which is no different than a porcelain bowl that has something hot in it. Any bowl with something super hot shouldn't be touched without some barrier, such as a thick kitchen towel or oven mitts or a plate. You wouldn't take a hot cookie tray out of the oven without oven mitts. They are sturdy bowls, and I was happy with the quality.

Pleasantly surprised. For the per bowl price at this size, these are one of the lower cost. They are actually very sturdy. I think with the square bottom helps with stability. I have soup in them all the time, has never leaked through, they hold up very well. I would totally recommend.
