Troubleshooting Steps for Squeaking Noise on Steering Shaft:
1 Check whether the noise is caused by the malfunction of the torque converter or ATF oil pump.It can be judged by temporarily dismantle the power steering oil pump drive belt. If the noise still exists after dismantle the belt, the ATF oil pump is not working well.
2 Check whether the oil (high pressure) hose is rubbing with other parts. If yes,re-fix the oil hose.
3 Check whether the steering shaft universal joint, tie rods or ball studs are loose. If necessary, tighten loose fasteners or replace defective parts.

Had a clunk after installation. Also had a bunch of rust inside slip shaft and the unit was "new". Bought a better unit off Rock Auto for the same price.

As you can see in the picture the part broke in half. The vehicle it was installed in, back in March 2022 is a spare car for the family, only driven 3947 miles for the year with part installed. I was driving the car while rebuilding the engine on my daily driver. One day a few weeks ago I was driving home and while driving I felt a snap on my steering wheel and developed about 2” of play I continued about another mile and I get to my house and was driving in to my parking spot I noticed my wheels was no longer turn or responding to my steering wheel. I looked under the hood and couldn’t believe my eyes the shaft was just hanging down broken. My car is a 2005 Chevy cobalt and the factory part lasted 206k miles and didn’t broke I only replaced because over 17 years it developed about half inch of play . I ordered a new one from Amazon Doman brand and it’s thicker and feels better quality.

I had no problem with this replacement shaft. My Cobalt has 190,000 plus miles on it so I don't need this to last forever! Easy installation and it is the perfect combo of price and quality for a car I'm just trying to keep rolling until something too expensive to repair makes it a Pull a Parts car. Hoping to reach the 200k mile goal this winter.
