My son is 15 and has autism, which makes him more sensitive to lights and sounds overall but he is also wanting some privacy these days as well. This tent made for the perfect solution for his bedroom. It has the flaps for him if he wants to be social and he can flip them down if he wants privacy. The light strips create soft lighting for him if he chooses and aren't made into the tent if he doesn't want them. They attach with little clips and use batteries to operate. I think it would be better if they just plugged in the wall but he doesn't really want them on the tent for now so it's not a big deal. He loves that this not only gives him privacy from his brother but also keeps the pets out of his bed when he doesn't want to bother with them. This material doesn't quite fit the bill for blackout since it does let some light in, but it buffers everything and keeps it soft so my son doesn't feel overloaded. He absolutely loves his bed tent!

This is a great bed tent! I would not call it blackout (hence the four stars) but it is definitely darkening. It has two tiny mesh triangles at the top to allow some air to get in and one long side and one short side can unzip and be clipped up. I got this for my son to use when we travel to give everyone a little more privacy if we're all sharing a room. I tried it over his twin daybed at home and it works perfectly. It could easily be used on top of a bigger bed as well. At its peak, it's 43" high inside so it doesn't feel claustrophobic. It doesn't take long to put up/take down and it's easy to fit it back in its storage bag. I really appreciate how the storage bag has the instructions sewn in on a long tag. Everything is surprisingly compact and could easily fit in a carry-on suitcase without taking up a significant amount of room. Very happy with this bed tent!

This bed tent is easy to put together and very durable, with openable flaps on every side. It has the X shaped vaulted style instead of the three-ribs vaulted t style used by other brands. This means that it has a definite "tallest point" in the middle, and is lower on the ends, which takes a little getting used to, but it's not obnoxious or anything like that. Taking it back down is a little more of a chore, but again, not obnoxious.

I got theirs bed tent for my son to use on his loft bed. He absolutely loves it and talks about it all the time to his friends about how he feels like he goes camping every night when he goes to bed. He is only six years old and was able to set it up on his own. The included string lights really add a nice touch to the tent and allows my son to be inside of it without having to have his bedroom light on. This creates a nice, calming ambience for him. The material of the tent, while thin, keeps the product lightweight and somewhat breathable, which allows air flow to exist.
