So, let me just start by saying that the padding is adequate. I have a large nine-year-old and they seem to take it pretty well. However, the sizing is off. His previous pair of pants were mediums, they were a bit snug, but still fit. We purchased two pairs of these. The medium was too small And required some crafty tying of the waist cord. However, the large was way too big. It also requires some work with the waist cord. There is a huge difference in size and between the medium and a large. We decided to keep both of them for practices, but ultimately went with another brand for game day
