Another excellent offering from the Canned Heat boys, a nice raw hard sound, with 5 leads vocal from Kite & 4 from Wilson (they never seemed to have share vocals, perhaps their voices didn’t fit together).Although heavily influenced by blues & R&B, the band gives their own unique & contemporary interpretation of the genre.Highlights for me is the 7 minute blue rundown “London Blues” & “So Sad..”, in which AL Wilson sings about a failed first date (it’s thought by people close to Wilson that one of the reasons that contributed to him committed suicide (apart from his environmental concerns) was his failure to have long term relationships with women).Best of the extra tracks is “Xmas Blues”, it’s quite nice to here a Christmas song not sung by Slade & Wizzard. Although there are bits of the chipmunk’s song that are played at a fast & furious pace that sound quite good!Great sound quality & excellent liner notes, & to be honest I wasn’t expecting that much from this album (I thought the band's star was on the wane by the time this record was released), but this is a completely compelling CD from start to finish

I recently bought this album, it's the first time I've heard it since it came out in 1970, 41 years ago! None of the tracks disappoint, and World's In A Tangle (the last track) is brilliant. Instead of killing himself, Alan Wilson should have used his money from Canned Heat to set up a nature reserve or animal sanctuary; but I'm using the hindsight of history to say this so what do I know?

Future Blues was originally released on LP in 1977 and was released in its original form on CD July 1, 1994. This is a different Canned Heat then what one came to know and love in the 70's. Gone is Henry Vestine on guitar replaced by Harvey "the Snake" Mandel. The result is a heavier, darker, guitar tone than on other Heat albums. Make no mistake about it Mandel can flat out play. The guitar solo on "So Sad" for example, is burnin' hot and in all respects is first rate. The CD also contains rehashed versions of "Going Up The Country" in "Shake It and Break It" and a slightly faster version of "Let's Work Together". It also includes and an out of place big band swing number called "Skat". Finally, Dr. John put's in an appearance in the heavily "Hooker" influenced number "London Blues" which, on the LP version represented the opener for side two of the album. The best cuts are the harp laced "Sugar Bee" and the entire side two or, "London Blues", "So Sad" and "Future Blues".
