I ordered myself and my girlfriend who have only been playing a year each an Academic. They arrived in amazing packaging and have the highest quality that I've ever seen in a deck box. It has sharp looks and I love TCC's logo on box. The Academic itself fits cards as described, with extra space for storing new packs or sleeves or tokens or dice. You truly have unique customization options with this deck box. Running a soldier deck? You have slots for tokens, counters, and a life counter. Running a heavy enchantment deck with lots of sideboard options. Keep your extra sleeves and cards in a container along with the tokens you'll need and the dice. This is truly the most all encompassing storage you'll need to go play. Best of all. You can leave your deck in its own box and it will fit inside the Academic! Double protection never hurt anyone lol

So my favourite deck box of all time is the Card Lair 600+ from gamegenic. The problem is that it takes up too much room when I play at my LGS. Now the Academic 133+ XL solves that issue. I can fit 3 full double sleeved commander decks (gamegenic prime sleeves and inner sleeves) with room for tokens and counters. It’s 1/3 the size of the Card Lair 600+ and it feels very premium and looks amazing in the Teal, Purple stealth and Neon Green. 100% worth buying.

If you play certain formats of Magic the Gathering, this box might be more useful to you. The storage space is nice but for me, it's a lot of wasted space and you can't get a sleeved deck of cards in the storage slots. I also feel that this box is a bit too expensive for what it is.

My initial order of the product came with a sticky residue in a few places and I was able to remove it with some work but in one spot (1st picture) it remained noticeably discolored. I ordered a replacement thinking it may have just been an unlucky attempt. The second arrived and I noticed another noticeable issue with a glue like substance in one corner (2nd picture) and then in the opposite corner what appeared to be a paper like substance which I was able to mostly remove but can still see the residue from slightly (3rd picture) ((doesn’t show up well on camera)). These of course are only slight cosmetic issues but when purchasing a premium product the aesthetic can be apart of the decision making process. When comparing to other products such as the boulder and satin tower I’ve never personally had a similar issue with a noticeable flaw with a much larger sample size of both products (4 boulders and 10 satin towers) despite both of those being 1/3 the price. Overall, if something like this won’t bother you then you’re good to go, but if it would I figured it would be beneficial to be aware of.Now onto the functionality. The lid is amazing and locks into place smoothly and is strong enough to pass a shake test but still easy to remove. The main compartment can fit a full double sleeved (dragon shield inner and outer) commander deck with ample room to spare, but almost too much room if that is all you want in the main compartment. I personally added a bunch of tokens for various decks in with the deck to prevent it from moving around too much (4th picture). There is also a divider included in the main compartment that you can remove if you wanted to include a deck box inside or free up some space for whatever else you might want to include. Aside from the that you have 3 compartments, one uncovered and 2 that come with a removable container. The extra compartments provide ample storage for accessories and tokens or if one would like they could divide a double sleeved commander deck between all 3 compartments and store 2 commander decks in one academic.When factoring both aspects of my review in. I can only give it a 4/5 as the cosmetic defects I encountered 2/2 times detract from the aesthetics personally and required work from myself to get into a more presentable state. The functionality is versatile and clearly designed to meet many needs but that can be a bit of a downside if it doesn’t fit your personal use case leaving unused space within the deck box but the functionality does encapsulate that premium feel in my experience.
