Amazon.ca Product Description

The pump is of the canned rotor type, i.e. Pump and motor form an integral unit without shaft seal and with only two gaskets for sealing. The bearings are lubricated by the pumped liquid. The pump is characterized by ceramic shaft and radial bearings, carbon axial bearing, stainless steel rotor can and bearing plate, corrosion-resistant impeller, composite, pes, and cast iron pump housing. The motor is a 1-phase motor. No additional motor protection is required.

From the Manufacturer

Grundfos UPS15-58FC circulator pump (Grundfos# 59896341) incorporates a cast iron housing, three speed motor (Low/Med/High) and a built-in, removable check valve. Grundfos UPS15-58FC is among the most popular and most versatile circulator pump models on the market. Pump's performance parameters cover nearly all traditional heating applications - from radiant and baseboards, to fan coils and zoning and many others. 3 speeds allow to set up the circulator pump in a way, that matches the system's requirements, while wet rotor design allows it to be virtually silent while operating.

Installed in the circulation line for our underfloor garage heating system. At first it squealed quite a bit and it didnt seem to be moving any fluid at all. I uninstalled it and removed the white plastic backblow valve on the output side of the pump, then primed the pump from the output side but filling the line with fluid and reconnecting it. After that the pump was nearly silent and we could see the fluid moving very quickly through the lines. If this pump is operating properly you shouldn't hear much noise, its a barely noticeable hum.

It's a good product but thought we ordered 1-1/4" not 1". It will work but description was confusing.

Pump instal on garage floor (under concrete) for heat. Installed before we bought the house and we had it for seven years. Funny thing is the pump failed shortly after the failure of the hot water tank. “Go fiquire”

Installed in a hydronic heating application to replace a 10 year old pump that developed a leak. Corrosion and pinhole leaks can be an issue with these pumps. The three speed switch for this model makes it suitable for a variety of applications with different head requirements.

The Grundfus Circulating Pump was ordered on a Friday at 5:00 pm and it was delivered (free) to my door the following Monday at 9:00 am. It appears the unit was shipped from Mississauga, ON vs. the Seller location in Victoria, BC.The Amazon pricing was very favourable compared to local bricks & mortar vendors.Packaging at the Amazon Distribution Centre was adequate but not outstanding... Grundfos documentation states: "Take care to ensure the pump is NOT dropped or mishandled; dropping will damage the pump".Clearly written & illustrated instructions are included together with a pair of new rubber gaskets. The replacement pump was virtually identical to the original 18 year-old unit with worn out bearings.Installation was straight forward and took less than 5 minutes (excluding preparation & clean-up).I'm disappointed Grundfos does not design these units to be refurbished with new bearings & seals but recommends "Disposal in an environmentally sound way".Overall, a very good experience and highly recommended.

I replaced an existing Grundfos pump that went kaputt after 13 years. All the input from community regarding my questions was very helpful. The flange shape was slightly different but the O ring fit both openings that were already plumbed in. I tightened the bolts and no leaks thank goodness The old pump was single speed , the new one 3 speed. I cut the difference and set it to medium. I was able to use the existing power cord and connected easily to the pump’s electrical configuration. Quiet and most importantly instant hot water. I ordered the flange kit, but didn’t need it since It came with new O rings and was able to use the same housing and bolts that were there already. If I even get half the life I got from the last one, I will be very satisfied because the price is right.

Installed this pump last July during boiler shutdown. Throughout this winter so far, after several severe cold weather spells, this pump has performed flawlessly. It is very quiet---I only hear water moving in the pipes if I listen carefully!! This pump is Silent with a capital S! We had a conventional pump/assembly and electric motor set-up for 20+ years and those were noisy (at the boiler and throughout the system). Now, all I hear (At the boiler) is a click from the thermostat relay and the burners lighting in the boiler. Wish I knew of these pumps some time ago. Installation was less a headache than I expected. The best part = no more oiling. I used to oil the motor and the bearing assembly in the old setup and spent many moments trying to second guess myself on whether I got it right. I left the old set-up on a shelf in the garage in case I needed it. Now it looks like I can get rid of the old parts. I kept the check valve in the pump when installing and noted the water must stay stationary when the boiler is off because the temp of the pipes at the boiler remain hot. This tiny pump has more than satisfied the heating needs of our home under all conditions thus far (January 16, 2014).
