About Hikari

Hikari, the "originator" of Species Specific and premium aquatics diets has been copied by many, but our loyal customers know they can always depend on our products to offer their aquatic pets the finest in scientifically balanced nutrition. For almost 140 years we've spent considerable time exploring natural habitats of fish, breeding fish in our own facilities, producing diets in our own factories, processing every shipment through our own facilities and researching the impact our diets have over time. These unique insights into the nutritional needs of fish give a competitive advantage no other fish food maker can duplicate and allow us to produce species specific diets that will not only maintain your aquatic pets' health, but assist you in keeping your aquarium or pond in top form.

We make the health and longevity of the fish and the aquatic environment they live in our first priority. Focusing on bringing about success to the hobbyist through exacting nutrition has allowed us to develop a brand name synonymous with superior quality. Consider using Hikari, because you love your aquatic pets as much as they love you!

Why Customers Choose Hikari

Lake Malawi in Africa

Research

Our exploration to Irian Jaya, Lake Malawi in Africa, Guiana highland, the Indian Ocean, the jungle of Southeast Asia and the Holy River Ayeyawady and others, offer us many secrets to fish health, coloration, breeding requirements, water conditions and quality and ultimately a life span which exceeds that they would expect in their natural habitat.

Fish

Species Specific

Hikari offers a wide variety of diets for different species of fish, each offering unique characteristics which enable it to be readily accepted by the specific fish it was developed for, which is where Species Specific originated. This attention to detail allows you to be confident your choice will be quickly devoured by even the most finicky eaters.

Hikari Lab

Technology

Our first hand experience breeding and raising fish, and the scientific data we can collect during this process, give us a clear road map for future product improvements and enhancements. Hikari uses actual experience and physical practice instead of marketing schemes or unproven theory to develop our premium aquatic diets!

Tetra

TETRAS LOVE MICRO PELLETS

Most Tetras will readily take most smaller foods used in the hobby. Care should be taken to ensure that the food of choice is not too large for them to properly eat and digest. They tend to nibble at their food, leaching of the nutrients is also an issue. For this reason choosing a product like Micro Pellets, which is a small , rapidly softening pellet when put in water and micro-coated to lock in the necessary nutrition. Feed them more often, smaller amounts of food, use an amount they will completely consume within about 30 seconds. Care should be taken to avoid over-feeding and the water quality issues that can result. Try Ultimate for outstanding water quality!

In their natural habitat, neon tetras are omnivores, eating both meat and vegetables/plant matter. Fortunately for aquarium keepers, they enjoy eating all different types of food including pellets, frozen, freeze dried, flake and live. As always, a high quality, formulated diet should be the basis of their daily nutrition.

ANGELFISH LOVE MICRO PELLETS

Angelfish prefer to feed at the surface or mid-water, however, in nature they often forage along the bottom looking for worms and small crustaceans. They will thrive on Micro Pellets or Vibra Bites as their base diet. Frozen and live foods can be fed as treats or to help induce spawning. Feed only what they can consume in about 2 minutes twice a day. Care should be taken to avoid over-feeding and the water quality issues that can result. Try Ultimate for outstanding water quality!

Angelfish are omnivores, but in the wild small live prey can make up a large portion of their diet. They are known to feast on insects, larvae, crustaceans, rotifers and even fry. They require a diet high in protein, fiber and typically do not eat lots of plant material or algae. Mated pairs, that you are planning to breed, must be fed up to 4 times a day. Adding some vegetable materials to their daily food mix will ensure they get the fiber they need.

Livebearers

LIVEBEARERS LOVE MICRO PELLETS

Livebearers are omnivores and need both vegetable matter and meat based foods. They will enjoy Micro Pellets. Frozen, freeze dried and live foods can also be fed as treats or to help induce spawning and improve growth. Feed twice a day the amount they will completely consume within about 2 minutes. Care should be taken to avoid over-feeding and the water quality issues that can result. Try Ultimate for outstanding water quality!

Almost all livebearers are top feeders and will readily take most formulated, frozen, freeze dried and live foods. Be sure their daily food offering has some vegetable content too. Livebearer fry are about 7 to 10 mm in length when born. They can be some of the easiest species to raise as they great foragers and can usually find additional food sources in the aquarium between feedings to keep them happy. As they grow, they can add constant movement and excellent coloration to your aquarium setting and offer lots of new babies regularly to enjoy.

This is one of the regular foods I feed my community aquariums. I like that they don't sink right away and give some of the slower fish time to get them compared to the bites that sink faster. The pellets are nice and small which is great for smaller fish and growing fry

My guppies love it. Each pallet is small enough to be ingested easily at about 0.25mm as claimed. It floats for about 30 sec before it sinks. And it doesn't pollute the water. The protein is a bit low. The Hikari Fancy Guppy could be better.

I rotate the food between these and flakes. The fish love them! One advantage is that they float so will sink over time meaning the feeding period is prelonged. But the Rasborras get impatient and flip the food down. They are brightly coloured too so I think the fish can easily seen them

My guppies love it. Can enhance color in 1-2 days which is amazing. Will float awhile then sink, very few leftovers. However I would recommend not to grind it for fry, otherwise water quality can drop in a very short time and make your fish sick if your tank system is not tough enough. Another down side is that this stuff makes the water much "fishy" in smell and a little red water. Avoid this product if you prefer present smell of your tank.
