I just bought a new "sit on" kayak and decided I'd do like the cool kids and build a cheap crate. The only thing I had to actually buy was pretty much the rod holders as I had everything else. Amazon has a great selection of different styles to suit any project. I opted for these as I only needed 4 and wanted them independent of each other.They arrived quickly and in pretty simple packaging. Although they were in a bag, the plastics were all wrapped in bubble wrap. I was pleasantly surprised to see 2 bags of mounting hardware inside. (that may have been a packaging error though)Installation was super easy in my case but your possibilities are endless. I really like that they give you both long bolts with nylon lock nuts as well as screws. The best part is that the hardware is all stainless steel! I mounted all 4 of them to my hacked up milk crate.Now time will tell on the actual quality of these. The plastic does feel stiff and I'm not certain how it will hold up in the sun's UV rays. I opted for orange for visibility but also for fading. I'm thinking orange won't fade as obviously as black. Overall, the build quality seems fine for the cost of these.The inclusion of the bungee cords is nice. I haven't found a specific use for them just yet but they are a nice bonus. The holders slot could have been notched a bit wider too. A few of my rods sit up (as pictured) and don't quite go all the way in. Some reels, like baitcasters, won't go in at all so it's more a matter of getting a good tie down system to prevent them from coming out.If you're looking to build a custom project or even just looking to add a few more holders for your boat, then I would recommend these.
