Not sure how thick the leather is, but after a couple of months of use, it has that “distressed” appearance, which makes it great for vintage firearms.

I was skeptical as to the authenticity and quality of the leather. The leather is genuine and almost the high quality of great belting leather. Case is very durable, quality construction. There remains an issue with the packaging when sent by seller. The case is bent over twice, then wrapped tightly in cellophane. This process leaves some decolorization of the leather, but not enough to deter use. I anticipate this issue will be worked out over time. This is an excellent firearm case.

There are some pros and cons to this product, but it should be 5* over time. The pros: Absolutely gorgeous leather. Have to stay that the thick leather has been worked, cured, tanned perfectly. Props to the guys who provided the leather. The stitching is beautiful, as well, the strap buckles are high quality as well. The wool interior is soft, while still providing enough “heft” for decent padding. I wouldn’t trust airline baggage handlers to touch this case, but it will definitely be adequate for routine trips to the range or Forsyth MT…The negative: The shipping (folded in thirds) is horrible! Who would fold something so beautiful, in thirds, wrap it in Saran-wrap (or similar), stuff it in a box for shipment. The folds (and corresponding wrinkles) may work out in time, but who thinks that’s OK??? Jesus, guys, find a better method of packing for shipment. One other negative, was that there was a bit of barnyard debris in the wool. Some bits of hay/alfalfa/straw, that I needed to pick out, before sliding my new Pedersoli Sharps into it, for short term storage. All in all, the quality is outstanding. The leather is some of the best I have ever seen. I hope the shipping wrinkles will relax, over time, but thats the fault of the people who don’t quite respect the product, they same way that “customers” might. This is an expensive leather case. Don’t think that damaging the product, in prep for transport, is OK. This is a small market, for a small batch of customers, who are willing to pay for this historic quality leather. Don’t damage it, on the way out the door, just because it’s not your problem, any more.

I bought this for my 1874 sharps rifle which is 50 inches and it fits perfectly, I was a little afraid of spending this amount of money on a product with little to no reviews but decided to give it a shot anyways and I'm impressed with it. My only complaint would be the packaging; it's folded into thirds and has some creases/folds in it but I'm sure those will come out with use over time.
