This Kerick SR10 stainless steel rod is 1/4" in diameter and 10" long. It is made of 18-8 stainless steel for resistance to corrosion and has 1/4"-20 male threads on each end. It is intended for use with 3/8" and 1/2" inlet float valves and 4 x 5" or 2 x 2 x 4" float balls (sold separately). As part of a float valve installation, it is suitable for use in a variety of applications, such as fountains, livestock water tanks, and chemical manufacturing plants.
Float valves use a rod and float ball attached to a valve shutoff lever to control flow in or out of a tank. The float ball rises or falls with the level of liquid in the tank, changing the angle of the valve shutoff lever. When the angle of the valve lever changes sufficiently, the valve opens or closes. Float valves are rated according to the volume of liquid that can flow through them at a particular pressure to ensure the tank can be refilled as quickly as it is emptied. The material that a float valve is constructed from must be suitable for the liquid in which it operates, which may be corrosive or at an extreme temperature. Float valves are used to automatically regulate the level of liquid within tanks in a variety of applications, such as fountains, livestock water tanks, cooling towers, and chemical manufacturing plants.

I needed a float rod that was longer than 8", which seems to be the standard length, and one I could bend a bit. This fit inside the tank perfectly and fixed one of the issues with my cranky old toilet, in that the floater would hit the flapper and prevent it from sealing. The extra 2" was just enough that and the problem is gone. Also for some reason the local plumbing stores don't even carry these anymore and all the general hardware stores only have 8", so this was an excellent find.
