Received my maxcatch extreme 9’ #6 with 5/6 reel today it was packaged very nice and everything inside the hard sturdy case. Everything seems to be exactly as described. The fly case is handle and a fits in the side pockets of the sturdy rod/reel case. The only problem that I see is that the lanyard clip where you would hood your snips to the rivet came undone and fell apart. Other than that you won’t go wrong with this setup

The rod arrived well packaged in a nice, neat and tidy carrying case. It is just what I was looking for to strap on the 4 wheeler and explore without worrying about getting broken.Appears well made for the price. Flies look kind of "mickey mouse" but I have lots of those lolThe hat was a bonus. Works for me, I would recommend this set up for the price.

Great durable rod and reel. Comes all ready to go. All you need to do is assemble, line it, tie the fly and fish. Decent quality flies, and a good hard case. Overall I’m extremely impressed. The company seems reputable with a respectable mission statement. If you’re looking for something that’s will work and catch fish on a budget, don’t hesitate to buy this setup. I’ll probably buy another just to have for a friend or family.

Surprised how well this thing casts, the reel is very smooth. Was looking for a cheap 3WT and this works perfectly. Nice kit with the case, flies and fly box. All you need to start catching fish, without breaking the bank.

Just started fly fishing recently so I picked up this rod. Seemed reasonable for the price and had pretty good reviews. I am very impressed with it. All the cases are good material and I have no complaints about the rod so far, though have only been out fishing a days, spent most of the day using it and had no issues. I friend of mine who has fly fished for 5 years tried it out and was really impressed with the action of the rod for the price. Overall very impressed

Tested this rod last summer/fall. Love it, caught a bunch of fish with no issues with the rod and reel. The Flys that came with it didn't last very long, unraveled, bought some better quality ones that worked better. But I bought this more for the rod than the Flys so no complaints

I got this rod as a gift to get my girlfriend into fly fishing without the big start up costs. Out of the box this is a decent set up, gives you pretty much all the basics to get going other then pliers. Case is fairly well built and good selection of hooks. First use of the rod it’s not a bad rod but the reel leaves a lot to be desired. I know a reel is pretty much there just to hold line but this back spools to freely and every cast it just keeps dumping line out. Comes set up as left hand retrieve but pretty simple to swap over by taking the spool off and pull the little clip out and flip the drag cartridge then reassemble. For the buck it’s a pretty hard to beat set up though.

I have 4 fly setups that are much heavier and much more expensive for salt and bass. I wanted something light and cheap to leave in the truck to fish small ponds for bluegill and the occasional small large mouth on my way home from work. I figured what the heck, this combo costs 1/10th of my 7wt setup. I am honestly super impressed. I figured with the price I was going to get something super flimsy and low quality, but I was pleasantly surprised. Even the line is good. Rod has a nice fast action great finish surprisingly light, and although the reel isn’t the best looking, it does what it needs to do on a 3 wt, which is hold the line. The carry case seems to be made well, and the extra fly box and storage on the carry case makes keeping this setup under the seat of my truck a breeze. For bluegill and crappie this thing has taken the place of my TFO 5wt. Blue gill the size of your hand feels like fighting a 7lb bass on a bait caster. Oh and the free hat they threw in was a nice bonus as well. Thanks yall, I’ll spread the word to my buddies.

Don't waste your money on this combo, you're better off doing a little research and ordering the components of a fly rod individually. The price and what you get for it in the package is luring for sure but the reel is absolute junk. The leader line got caught between the spool and the reel somehow and when I went to take the reel off the spool to undo the line all the little pieces of the reel fell out and a spring flew across my garage. Couldn't get it back together and working properly.Everything else that comes with the kit is cool and seems good quality, but I'd recommend just spending a few extra bucks and get a good quality reel and spool.

This is my first ever fly fishing rod and it is a great starter kit @ $120. Very happy with the build quality of the rod, reel, and equipment case. I watched a bunch of Youtube videos about flycasting then went out to a field to practice casting and got the hang of it after 20 minutes. It's nice it came with some flies as well.I am left handed and switching the reel to lefthanded use was simple enough once I watched some videos and figured out the steps. There is a little lever on the reel that lets you remove the spool no unscrewing any screws required. Also I figured out I had to respool the line in order for my lefthand conversion to be complete.UPDATE: Dec 2017 -- Caught my first fish on the fly within a couple days of receiving this kit. Very exciting. It was a perch that took the bumble bee fly that comes with the combo (see pic). Caught a mess of perch on flies on one trip and fried them up. Delish!I have bought a good amount of Maxcatch rods and reels since this start kit and I am impressed with the quality of all Maxcatch's gear and they have great customer support. After being an avid fresh/saltwater fisherman with spincasting and baitcasting setups since I was a kid I finally tried fly fishing. Don't be intimated by the flycasting challenges, it's easier than it looks! I am looking forward to catching my first fish using a fly :-)
