Bought this to do my first fret level, it worked perfectly, was easy to hold and precise with good weight. I bought a roll of quality 400 grit adhesive paper so I don’t test the included paper but it looked like there was enough to do a couple guitars.

It's made from a machined block of aluminum, not tubular al, which surprised me. It's nice and heavy. It would be better if it came with a couple of different grits of sandpaper which is why it got 4 stars instead of 5.

I got the 16" version, and it is as flat as anything else in my wood shop (I checked it against my cast iron tablesaw) . The tool is a solid extrusion of aluminum, with an attractive anodized surface. None of the surface are polished, sort of a matte finish on the whole thing.The $$$$Mac one probably has a thinner strip to slide under the strings, but I found that I could easily loosen one or two strings a bit, while keeping the neck under tension. The only place this is a problem is near the nut end of the fretboard.The 400 grit paper strips suggested with it worked flawlessly. Probably wouldn't get anything lower, and wouldn't mind having a 600 / 1000 grit version...TL:DR for the hobbiest luthier it's perfect, if you're a pro, buy the machined steel one from $Mac
