This is a very common part to fail on my year vehicle so thankfully very inexpensive and really quick to change out

First time DIY usually get confused when replacing a thermostat because instructions are confusing. I've gotten piles of calls of "where is the gasket." Then you're thinking is one's asking where is the housing gasket or what because that black rubber ring around the thermostat is the thermostat gasket, but most instructions call that thermostat "housing", and that is not the housing the housing is the cover with the close bolt hole and open bolt hole that fits over thermostat, and that needs a paper gasket or form a gasket sealer then allowed to dry for about 24 hours before applying heat from engine, and be very careful tightening those bolts if your vehicle has an aluminum engine. Apply some anti-seize lubricate than tightening bolts. You can test thermostat in your kitchen before replacing. Take a cooking pot filled half way with warm water, and turn heat on high to near boiling. Take a long fork or metal coat hanger and attach to where can lower thermostat into water then you can see if the spring valve opens or closes when cooling, if you see movement then the thermostat is not your problem.
