I bought these files on a friend's recommendation, wow I'm glad I did. I thought I knew what a decent and sharp file was, until I tried these. They cut thru heavy metal like a hot knife thru warm butter and the handles are by far the most comfortable file handles I have ever held.

These files are constantly used and cut steel easily and quickly. I’ve never had the satisfaction that these tools provide me. Money well spent for a fair priced high performance file.

Just a solid set of files, very comfortable in the hand. they have a good weight to them. You can take a lot of material off in one pass, very good hogging files.

Big, sturdy files. High quality with years of use, I'm sure.

The handles are comfortable, the price is reasonable, and they roll some metal off of the workpiece. These are not fine-finish files, they are probably good for 1/8" material or thicker for shaping. Trying to make this work on 1/16" material wouldn't be satisfactory; you would need a finer tooth. If you need to remove a lot of material fast, these are a very good choice.

Wonderful. I’ve never had files this nice. When I got these I made some brackets with curved edges and the files all cut beautifully and precisely where I put them. The handles are great and make the files easy to control. I’m not sure what I’ll use these brackets for now, because I don’t actually need them...

I am a metal sculptor and have been using files almost daily for over 50 years. I usually just used what was around the studio most of which would no longer cut. I did some research and found that there really is a quality difference between file brands. There were a couple of recommended brands to choose from but I took a chance on Pferd and am so glad I did. These files cut and last. I bought 3 sets which are probably more than I need but when I need to file cut steel I have the best tools for the job.

This is a really solid set of German-made hand files, bastard (coarse) cut. These are just the ticket when you have some material to remove and aren't yet concerned with surface finish. You would typically follow-up the rougher work you did with these by finer finishing with a smooth (fine) cut file when a fine surface finish was desired. The divided storage pouch is the best I've ever seen for this purpose. A storage pouch is important, because you don't want these knocking around unprotected in your toolbox. Impact with other hardened steel items (like other files) will dull them and may chip the very hard (and therefore somewhat brittle) teeth. Caring for them well will keep them cutting well for a long time. Making your own storage solution is more time-consuming than it might sound, so having an excellent solution as part of the package increases the appeal of this set substantially. The handles these come with are the best I've ever used. A file should never be used without a handle, for safety reasons you'll soon discover if you adopt that bad habit. Finding handles that fit really well is another challenge. All these handles provide excellent comfort and are super-firmly seated, they appear to each be custom fit to the particular file. This is another important time savings that contributes to the value.A small collection of files is one of the very few tools I keep on my metalworking bench at all times. I use them frequently for deburring and other manual finishing operations that machine operations leave behind. Those files are generally smooth cut, whereas this particular set is most suitable for heavier stock removal, but my files are still some of my most valued and frequently used tools.I find it well worth a little added expense to buy top-quality files. The sharpness, uniformity, and longevity all contribute to making that the wise purchasing decision, for me at least. A top quality file gives satisfying service for a long time. Chinesium files are a disappointment throughout their short service life, in my experience. I have plenty of Chinese-made tools in my shop that perform well; but files are not one of those.Overall, I consider this set an excellent value.
