This bag is just the right size to carry a tube, tire irons, small first aid kit, wallet, cell phone and key FOB. It provides easy access to my phone and wallet. The mesh bag is a bonus, but I don't use it for a water bottle. I don't think it would work well for that. My seat is very high, so there is clearance above the wheel - something to consider. Also, it was not practical to mount my rear light on the end of the bag. I moved it down to the chain stay area instead.
