I'm glad they have spare parts because just when I thought I wouldn't need to use the spares, I broke one. The curvy pieces are really fragile so be careful! Other than that, it was such a fun and fulfilling project! I've completed a book nook before but this required less cutting and more assembling which I enjoyed! Some pieces were cut to fit each other PERFECTLY which made it hard to get the pieces to fit sometimes.

Fun to put together - not too complicated but definitely not for young children.

Bought this for my brother as a gift and as he was building it, there is a point where you need to turn a piece and that piece was not strong enough and broke, making it unusable

I like the look of the box but the instructions were a little hard to follow and the wood is kinda flimsy and will easily break, kinda wish they had sent multiple of more things

I really like these wooden puzzles by ROKR. As usual, this one is very good quality wood, and fun to put together, and the finished product looks great. Use a lot of the wax on all surfaces suggested, because there is a lot of gears and moving parts on this one. If you ever enjoyed putting together car, or plane, models in the past, you will find this type "puzzle" a lot of fun. Definitely for over 14+ years of age, due to some really small pieces and detailed, careful work that requires some patience! Now, the reason for the 4, and not 5 stars is this: I very carefully read, understood and followed the directions to use a code I wanted to get into the box. However, after going over all of the required steps in deriving the code and properly placing the parts necessary to have that code work, and after doing a double, triple and quadruple check on the procedure and part placement.....it did not work. I even took it apart and did it over to check again....no luck. Soooo.....like someone else mentioned in their review, I figured out what code would work from watching the wheels as I moved the knob with the numbers on it. How you do that is.....while the puzzle is apart enough for you to see the P1, P2 and P3 wheels in place, turn the dial (with numbers), on the front of the box, counterclockwise at least 2 turns, then keep turning and watch for the furthest back (from the dial) wheel to bring the "dip" in the wheel up to the position where the lock/hook would be able to move back and sit in the "dip"....even though the other 2 wheels will not yet allow the hook to move. Look at the number on the dial that lines up with the dark, pointed mark on the face of the box underneath the dial. That is the 1st number of your code. Then, turn the dial at least 1 full turn clockwise, then keep turning until you see the middle wheel bring up the same type "dip" for the lock/hook to fall into....you should stop when it lines up with the "dip" on the first wheel you lined up. Now, read the number on the dial, as before, to get your 2nd number in your code. Now, turn the dial counterclockwise as you watch for the "dip" on the front wheel to come up and line up with the other 2 wheel "dips" and allows the lock/hook to fall into the "open" position.....read the number on the dial again, as before, and this is the 3rd number of your code to open the box! I know this is wordy, but, I hope it helps someone else not want to toss this beautiful, fun box away. The maker of these badly needs to get these codes figured out....obviously, not all the codes they allow you to choose from their table work. I did mine EXACTLY as instructed, and it did NOT work. But....you can find the code that is working, if yours doesn't work either. Buy it....it's fun. Catch it on a sale, and it's really worth it! I paid about $20 on a limited time sale! :)

Ok this is a little gem! There are a few things to note, but seriously this was so much fun to build and use. First, I got it for my 11 year old son. Though he completely is obsessed with it and loves it so much, it was way above his skill level. Definitely not for kids to build. I did the entire thing. While building, it is essential to move all sliding parts until they slide easily. You will break pieces at the end if you don’t do this throughout the building process. The instructions aren’t super clear, but You definitely can follow. The encoder thing at the beginning is not necessary. I found it really difficult to figure out the dang thing. Just flip to the back of the instructions to the number table and choose one of those number sequences. That’s all the encoder does. Pay eagle eye attention to every detail In the instructions. You can follow them well if you note every detail. The pieces are easy to break, but it’s wood. Be careful. We did break the bendy sides and were able to super glue them successfully. This is SO FUN to watch all the mechanisms work once constructed!!! Very well made and great quality product.

I got this to build with my six-year-old. That... didn't work out. It's a bit too complicated for that. So, I started building it on my own. It wasn't easy by any stretch of the imagination, but that's kind of the point.I have to say this... whoever designed this thing... it was like they knew me. I broke one of the parts... and I was beside myself with grief. This was maybe 95% of the way done. Then I saw that there was A BACKUP OF THAT PART! Amazing.So... it's great. A good gift for my daughter and a fun way to spend part of a day stuck at home.

I've been wanting to try one of these 3d wooden puzzles forever. I assembled this one in about 2 and a half hours, partially due to having to find tools to help finish it. Its really cool now that its done but it inst without its difficulties putting it together. First problem you're going to have is the combination for the lock, the directions are really unclear. I ended up just putting it together and watching the lock as I turned it and found out what the combination was that way ( when you are about to put on the rubber band fr the lock, thats the step to stop and do this). Next problem is..the wood is rough and wont move smoothly. It comes with some hard wax (like a candle) I dont know if the intent is for you to melt it or what, but in its solid cold state its useless and i didnt want hot wax cooling and sticking things together. I sprayed the moving parts with PAM (yes the cooking spray) and it works like a well oiled machine now. Third is.. you need tools. you have to cut tiny dowels to length and while it comes with sand paper, its hard to get all the bits sanded smooth with it. I happen to have a model kit for warhammer 40k, so I used the metal file and snips from that to complete the job. But if you dont have a model kit, pick one up before buying this.Pros:1. its one of the coolest things ive ever wasted my time on, its really eye catching and people like looking at it.2. It does actually work like a safe, you can break it of course, but it will resist some3. Its very stress relieving to put together.cons.1. directions for the lock need a ton of work, as do the dowel cutting instructions.2. that dry wax needs to be replaced with something else.3. You really need a model kit to execute well
