  • It’s normal! The rough surface sharpens aggressively at first. With use, it smooths, exposing more diamonds for consistent performance. The break-in varies but usually takes several uses. Your stone isn’t wearing out—it’s adjusting for long-term use!

  • Avoid using water during sharpening, as it may cause the iron filings on the stone's surface to rust. Testing shows minimal difference in sharpening performance between using oil and dry sharpening, so oil is not necessary.

  • No, the dark areas are dried dirt from sharpening, not a sign of the diamonds wearing off. These marks don’t affect performance and can be left as is. For minor marks, use an eraser. For tough stains, clean with Bar Keepers Friend and air dry fully.

  • Avoid applying excessive pressure when sharpening, as it can accelerate wear on the diamond and shorten its lifespan. Instead, use light pressure to maximize the sharpening performance of the diamond particles.

  • The lifespan depends on usage, the hardness of the materials being sharpened, and maintenance. With proper care, it can last many years, even for those sharpening 3 to 4 times a week. Regular cleaning and light pressure extend its durability.

Excellent value, buy it if you want an affordable diamond plate. Cuts fast and is a great balance in grit sizes. Holder works really well, just make sure you place the plate in properly or you’ll dent in the little plastic grooves pretty quickly.

with a diamond coated stone like this you never have to worry about it becoming unlevel with use like all whetstones. also there is no oil or water or soaking needed. it can also sharpen anything you can throw at it, where whetstones cant handle super hard materials like high speed steel used in drill bits, and some super hard high carbon steel Japanese chef knives. This is the only dual grit diamond sharpener that doesn't have grit contamination on the higher grit side that i know of. PROFESIONAL QUALITY KNIFE SHARPENER

Used to sharpen my kitchen knives on wetstones, which take 5-10 minutes of soaking and other 5 minutes to clean the mess. Than I got a Lansky set, but it also take some time to mount everythingWith this one I can sharpen a knife in less than 2 minutes, with no mess and no preparation. Open, scratch scratch scratch, de-burr and voilàThe base sticks to the countertop and the whole set is heavy enough to even reset the bevel without slipping.Cleaning is also very simple, just a dry paper towel to brush the powder from the surface.Best 60 bucks I spent in a long time

Great all in one sharpening stone package! It's all you really need. The 320 side may seem coarse but it's perfect for very dull knives or resetting edge angle and needs some break in to smooth out when new. The 1200 is the real reason to get this stone. It cuts fast and smoothes out the 320 edge fast. You don't really need to go back to the 320 side on knives that have seen it. Grit size is accurate and the 1200 side doesn't seem to have any contamination as advertised. Cheap diamond stones only feel like they are max 800 grit no matter what is stated in them. It's nice to get a fine 1200 grit edge with a stone that is basically maintenance free. The case/base is very nice as well. Watch out when using the angle pyramid because it will be less accurate the thicker the knife and will put too steep an angle on them. It should really only be used on kitchen knives or thin knives. A 3-5000 grit whetstone would be a perfect addition to this one for an even finer edge and don't forget a strop!

In all honesty, this thing is great. It cuts through steel like it's butter. Can take a knife from completely dull to hair whittling sharp in just a few minutes on it.My only complaint is, I should've gotten the bigger one. This is great for hunting knives or pocket knives. But to sharpen larger stuff it's a bit too small to easily use. With a bit of practice, I can still get great results on my kitchen knives. BUT, it takes longer, and It's not as comfortable as a large one would be.No grit contamination at least. Main reason I took a look at this one. Very uniform size of diamond dust on these.4 stars because I feel the value could be a bit better. Knock 5-7$ off this and it'd be 5 star all the way.

I’m pretty new at sharpening knives by hand. The little orange pyramid it comes with was really handy - I always reset to the correct angle each stroke. I was able to get a couple of kitchen knives pretty damn sharp using the two grits and a strop of leather. The case it comes in is really sturdy and the rubber on the bottom really grips the table. Not like one or two little feet - the whole bottom is rubber. Felt solid as a rock. And the way the case doubles as a holder is really nice, space efficient. This is the first diamond stone I’ve touched, so I don’t know what they should feel like, but this felt super heavy and really solid. I definitely recommend this over some cheap stones I tried previously! They were messy and I wasn’t able to keep a consistent angle (skill issue).

I’ve tried all kinds of different sharpening stones and this one is by far the best and easiest to use. It doesn’t even need to be wet or covered in messy oil. The angle guide will come in very handy for people who are relatively new to free-hand sharpening. All in all, this is a great product and a good deal for this price…the only issue being that it’s not very big. It’s perfect for small-medium sized blades but if you want to sharpen any blades longer than 5 inches, I’d consider buying a bigger version of this stone. This one will still sharpen long blades but a bigger stone will save you a lot of time and give you better results.
