Your cart is empty.Priorities in a survival situation: escape the elements, stay warm, and signal rescuers so you're easy to find. The Scout has you covered on all fronts: a heat-reflective 2-person survival blanket provides warmth and shelter from wind, rain, and snow, while the one-hand operated Fire Lite striker and waterproof tinder produce multiple campfires. A 100dB Slim Rescue Howler rescue whistle and Rescue Flash signal mirror with retro-reflective aiming aid make it easy for you to signal your position to rescuers, and a compass, duct-tape and fishing/sewing kit round out the package. A professional-grade RF-welded waterproof bag keeps contents dry in any conditions.

The waterproof bag had holes in it.And the compass doesn't work.Anyone is better off making their own kit.

Love how this can fit in my backpack and not take up a lot of space. Hopefully I won’t need to use it, but nice to be extra prepared for emergencies.

Not impressed with the changes. Are they forgetting that they are dealing with people lives. SOL really???? Survive Outdoor Longer, really???? I made some modification which will really make me survive Longer. I changed that cheap compass with a small Silva Ranger SL Land Compass. I changed their so-called Tinder Quik by the real Tinder Quik (10) Their fire starter are so hard to break. If you are in Hypothermia state, your fingers won't be able to break it to expose the fibers. Why did i bought it if I'm so unhappy with it? For it's convenient size. It's great for Urban Survival and Woodland Survival. But, you must do the modifications. It fits great in my jacket, in my school bag, in my EDC backpack. I will also add water purifications pills, a fresnel lens and a survival card later soon. If you are planning to buy one, consider making the modifications.

This is an excellent personal survival kit for someone with low to average outdoor skills. Most personal survival kits on the market are either gimmicky and filled with useless junk or require a lot of outdoor skills to use the items, like making animal snares. Combine the fact that most people are rescued within the first 72 hours with the rule of three (people can generally last three hours without shelter, three days without water, three weeks without food) and it makes sense to concentrate on shelter and rescue. This kit does not have as many items as many kits do, but they are generally useful and high quality. The most important parts are the waterproof bag, Heatsheet Survival Blanket and the whistle. The mirror, duct tape and fire starter kit are nice. The compass and fishing kit are useless. I like the suggestion a previous reviewer had about taking out the useless parts and adding an led flashlight and a glow stick to make this a nice psk for kids and will steal that idea. I have purchased two of these and modified them by adding:- Stream Light 73001 Nano Light- Extra batteries- A Bic lighter- MSR water purification tablets- A Whirl Pack stand up one liter bag for water- A CRKT RSK Mk5 knifeThe stuff all fits, albeit barely, but it now provides the basics for several days of survival without requiring a great deal of outdoor skill. It would be nice if AMK had something like this in stock, but of course the psk could cost two to three times as much. It is also nice that it has enough space to customize. I got one for myself and after seeing it got another for my wife. The kids will get their own kid friendly version as suggested by the other reviewer as they get older.
