First off, I am a veteran QNAP user but I am not bias towards other brands. That's one of the reason why I want to try out the Terramaster NAS. Here are my observations on the F2-212 model.Pros :Easy to setup on the RAID part especially for people who are not familiar with RAID.Very fast & responsive interface and boot up (compare to QNAP equivalent)Extremely affordable (again, compare to QNAP/Synology equivalent)Toolless HDD designSolid build qualityCons:Hard to do the initialization (very confusing steps) & at one point, it became unresponsive.Very limited appsVery confusing folders/management especially the Mobile apps. Can't play MKV file (got video but no audio)Can not map drive to Windows Explorer - this is a deal breaker because not everyone is using this for multimediaPeriodic log in issue - username/password error message but they are the correct combination.Very primitive OS/management (compare to QNAP)The Terra PC desktop apps is so useless that it can't do much at all. Should have an apps like QFinder Pro and make it more useful for users. In short, it is OK if you use it for multimedia streaming and simple backup. But it is not stable enough to use for SOHO. Pricing is very attractive (equivalent to TS-433 in speed but 1/3 the price). However, it is only good if it works. This NAS has future if TerraMaster kept refining the TOS.

The F2-212 is a excellent inexpensive entry-level NAS if you do not require an extremely powerful server. The operating system installation went very well and was very easy. Although this NAS is limited to 1GB of ram I am still getting good performance (110 MB/s) writing and reading files even if my 2 drives are only running at 5,400 RPM (with 7,200 RPM or SSD I would probably get higher transfer speed). You can install 3.5 hard-disk or 2.5 SSD.I did not need RAID so I configured my 2 TB drives a JBOD in order to get a unique 3.7 TB of total space. Terramaster list of compatible hard disk is quite impressive compared to other entry-level NAS. My JBOD setup consist of one Toshiba and one WD. I will eventually install bigger drive. The TOS 5 system offer a lot of easy-to-use options to administer and configure the F2-212 unit.To be able to see the NAS in Windows Network enable ‘Discovery Service’. To be able to map a Windows Drive enable SMB in ‘File Service’. I have a large collection of DVD, Blu-Ray and 4K UHD movies and testing Terramaster Media Server. For DVD and Blu-Ray MKV files it works perfectly. For one user no issue and good streaming using Windows 1 Gbps or Samsung TV 100 Mbps. Could be different trying to stream with 2 or 3 users simultaneously. For 4K UHD MKV files the streaming is also excellent (I did not enable transcoding to get the best video resolution) but I have encountered audio and subtitles issues playing 4K with Samsung TV or the Roku video players. Many 4K movies are encoded with DTS audio and PGS subtitles and many players will not decode these. Playing a NAS 4K file on windows 11 VLC was perfect (sound and subtitles OK) but as soon as I tried to send the Windows player output to the TV using an HDMI cable I ended with a video and no sound, no subtitles. Seems to be a typical issue with Windows and HDMI.For my actual NAS requirements, I am very please with this low-cost server.

The fan is a little noisy and underperforms somewhat. Other than that just follow the install instructions and it will be easy. Just ensure you use NAS rated drives else you may find yourself with an under performing device or having to replace drives more often. Also get the most spacious drives you can afford and get more than one as RAID setups are useful for speed, redundancy or both depending on user preferences. The option to run a PLEX media server on the nas is nice however the ram on this model is the limiting factor. This nas is best for use in a cool, ventilated out of the way space like a livingroom or office. Also ensure that you correctly setup permissions else you will find family yelling at you for not being able to save their stuff to the nas... i learned this the hard way.

Nice and relatively small machine, does what I need it to which is highly subjective. Literally just used as a network drive for three people. Not backups, not streaming apps.I didn't expect the device to handle all my network connectivity issues for connecting to it. If, like me, your home network is set up for security and you use multiple routers to assist in accomplishing this, you will have to arrange your pointers to the device yourself.Storage drives are easy to attach to trays, which are easy to insert back into the device. Keep out of reach of small children, the trays can be popped out just as easily by explorative fingers.I recommend NOT doing the initialization software update over the internet, use the download and only over your house network. The device comes well packaged, if there is any damage to the one you get, it will be from the shipping.NOTE: the device beeps twice on restarts, once for shutdown, and once for power back on. Don't complain about noise for only two beeps, and when you get more, check the indicator lights and perform basic troubleshooting universal to all computers. (check power, check device connections to drives, etc.)

This device was acquired for a small budding company to replace an older model (an F2-NAS2) which became unusable due to the deprecation of the SMB1 network protocol in the recent Windows 10 builds. At present we've only installed a single 2TB hdd in it. We thought copying the data from the older TerraMaster would be difficult but in the event it wasn't because in our network we still have some old Windows XP machines. They had no problems accessing both NASs and so it was simple to copy the data over from the old to the new.I did try to see if connecting the hdd from the older NAS to the USB port of the new to do the copying but the new NAS did not recognise the filesystem of the old so trying to copying data over that way would not have been possible. If we didn't have a Windows XP machine we would've had to get help from TerraMaster who offered help which in the event we didn't require. However, I did wonder whether TerraMaster could include in their firmware for the F4-210 to support the filesystems in their older NASs through the USB connection.

lets start from the OS, it is the most inefficient OS i have seen to this date. transfer speeds are horrible due to resource bottle neck. you RAM will run at 100% 24/7 just performing regular basic tasks. If you decide to download applications:Plex will not work properly due to resource exhaustion. The cloud plugins cant even sync fully due to resource exhaustion.Their own backup application does not work due to resource exhaustion.Disks disappear and show offline multiple time a day so you have to reboot the the NAS on regular bases so clears cachethe configuration is extremely slow and can get confusing for non techiesI am very disappointed

Getting frustrated on having my Wi-Fi losing signal every 2 days with a USB drive attached, I went with this option seeing it receiving a full 5 stars and wanting to set up an NAS for my home.Installation and set up was relatively simple; install the hard drive, hook it up to your network, add power, run the setup program, and you're good to go.Transferring files is easy; you can either transfer from your computer to the TNAS (through the Terramaster OS, or TOS) or, if you have the files you want to transfer on a USB hard drive or flash drive, you can use the USB 3.0 connectors on the back of the unit to transfer the files over via the TOS.Couldn't be simpler to get things up and running out of the box. However, there's some things I'd nitpick at.1. The program that you need to install isn't verified by Microsoft. The app is in the same state, where your phone/tablet warns you that the app isn't verified in the Google app store. There *shouldn't* be any problem with it, just a caveat for future purchasers who are leery of what they install on their computers and devices.2. As convenient as it is, I really dislike the web interface for file transfer. As mentioned, you can use a USB drive as well to transfer your files, but I personally would like to be able to drag and drop from my Windows desktop without needing to have a web browser open. Again, I'm nitpicking, but it's all preference. (I'd really give this a 4.5 stars just for this.)The TOS interface looks and works familiar with Linux users. There are TNAS/TOS specific apps available to install. I mainly use it as a multimedia server for my home and, since remote access to the NAS is possible, from my phone or tablet when I'm out.Honestly, for what it is, it works great. Simple enough to set up and use for any user. Worth getting if you just need a simple NAS for your home.
