I would only purchase this if you already have some mechanical and wood working proficiency. I used a brass insert on the plastic block to provide a more secure purchase for the grub screw. I substituted a bamboo dowel (thought of using a carbon fiber arrow shaft, which would have been neat). I covered the connecting screw in the tail stock with ebony (nothing was provided for this in the kit, and the repair would have been unsightly).I would only use this on a guitar with a depressed lower bout and not just because I wanted a different tone. Vendor needs to rethink first principles since nice build quality but currently has inadequate functionality. It could have easily been a winner for almost no additional cost.

The plastic dowel has a threaded hole that a screw goes through the top of bridge after drilling a hole through the bridge. The hole in the plastic dowel is threaded to accept the screw. The threads are so fine that threads in the dowel ripped out when I tried to secure it in place. I was able to put part of a toothpick in the hole and force the screw into the hole at that point but not sure if it will hole. There should be a threaded metal insert in the dowel because threads that fine will never hold in plastic. I would have returned it but I was too far into the project and I needed to complete the install on my guitar. It did the job but I wouldn’t buy this one again. Buy the original Bridge doctor.

This is a decent copy of the original bridge doctor but definitely has some short falls of the original. This one just feels cheap and does not have the quality fit and finish of a real one. Will it do the job? Yes probably but I would rather spend money on one that is tried and true. Overall not a bad pick but not the best pick.
