I am a beginner so i can't yet detail all the features of this product but so far it has been fun learning from the research i have learn from online sources on how to listen in to local channels in my area. I am aware that we cannot transmit until we have a license so i don't press that button. The radio itself is well built and i like the display for it's readability. It comes with a long range antenna but i don't know how far i am picking up transmissions from. The FM is good to have and weather info.As i learn more of the capabilities i look forward to testing them out with this device.Recommended

I've been relying on the QUANSHENG UV-K5 dual band ham radio walkie talkie from brand TYIN for a couple of hiking trips so far with teammates. I was previously the only member of my team that did not have a proper ham radio, so I decided to try this one. It has rechargeable battery that is sufficient, and the included long-range, high-gain antenna is what I assume assures crisp communication, even in remote areas. It seems to work this way, just as advertised. There is a clear and easy to read screen on the front that makes navigation of channels and options a breeze. I've been using it in some pretty dense forests and mountainous terrain, and signal strength remains impressive.Rechargeability is a huge plus - I can use it for hours without worrying about battery drain, but it has its own base for when the time comes, and also the battery is removable and so interchangeable if you purchase extras. I assume you can as this is quite a well known walkie company. The compact design fits comfortably in my hand, but it has great clip options also.Overall, the UV-K5 talkie has now become a trusted companion, and lets me communicate with my mates during outdoor adventures, and for professional events. In particular, it has durability, range, and ease of use, everything you need really to make it an excellent choice for reliable communication. 5 stars.

I've been using the TYIN UV-K5 Ham Radio for a little while now, and it’s definitely a solid addition to my emergency prep gear. The range is impressive, and I love how the high-gain antenna lets me communicate over long distances. The rechargeable battery has been a lifesaver on extended trips, ensuring I stay connected without constantly worrying about power. The interface, however, can be a bit tricky for beginners. The menu options aren’t the most intuitive, and I had to spend some time with the manual to figure it out. A demonstration video would’ve helped a lot.I’ve mainly used it for outdoor adventures and emergency situations, and while it's a little bulkier than other radios, the reliability and performance make it worth it. The only downside is the slightly confusing speaker and microphone jack sizes, which could’ve been standardized. Overall, though, it's a great, durable, and versatile radio.

I'm relatively bright (my Mom tells me, anyhow), and have been at least "around" Ham people for a long time, so I was a bit frustrated by how difficult it was to intuitively navigate the use of this device. It's absolutely going to be a lifesaver in an emergency situation, but learning how to navigate all its features is surprisingly difficult. A demonstration video would have been enormously helpful, as the manual can be quite confusing.Overall, pleased to have this unit, though.

I did not bother much with the TX feature as I don't own a radio license and I didn't want to get in trouble. You can listen to walkie-talkie channel but cannot transmit. It has a scan feature and can hook up easily. You cannot transmit however on those band as it is disabled. It has also an FM mode so you can listen to station and music, honestly, this has surprisingly easier use than modern jukebox with FM and are horrid to use.The only dissapointing thing is the speaker jack 2.5mm but the microphone is 3.5mm, which does not make sense. Either make them both 3.5mm or 2.55.

It looks nice, but speaker quality is very weak, and overall reception is weak.

Being brand new to this type of radio I felt incredibly lost, thankfully a friend of mine came to the rescue. This little radio is pretty potent for its size and the antenna really seems to make it so this unit can get super clear communication from vast distances (according to my friend). The radio is not intuitive to use in my opinion but with some hands on help I was able to get it figured out and now is a great resource in the event of emergency. I have much more to learn in using this but at end of day, the price for this is worth it as a home emergency item!

Not as easy to figure out as one might have thought from reading some of the reviews. Still working on it.
