It is a good workaround if you do not have a cd burner to use for recording. Only issue is that sometimes the sound buffers (almost sounds like it is skipping.) After 1st I thought it was the laptop but it turns out that it is the software. My McAfee Total protection has helped with that but it still happens from time to time. If not for that issue, I would give this a 5 star rating.

VIDBOX Audio Recorder:4/5 stars - use higher quality RCA stereo cable for best results- included in the box other than the RCA to USB device itself is a USB cable, a 10 ft RCA to RCA stereo audio cable, a 3.5mm to RCA stereo adapter, quick start guide and, VIDBOX Audio Recorder software installation CD.- very easy to hook up use and use- The included USB device allows you to connect any analog audio source to your computer via USB to listen to and/or record/convert into digital MP3 or WAV format.- On caveat: when you plug the device into your computer, be sure to go to Control Panel...Sound...Recording tab, select Microphone (2- USB MUZBOX) checkbox, click Properties and on the Listen tab, checkbox "Listen to this device", and click ok a few times to save that setting. That will allow you to listen to the audio, even as it is recording using the include software.- The included software, VIDBOX Audio Recorder software was easy to install and has 2 modes of use:- Wizard mode allows you to convert from any analog audio source into MP3 files, and burn them to Audio CDs or MP3 CDs. It will also auto split tracks into separate MP3s. This mode will automatically save record the audio as: MP3 16-bit Stereo, 48000 Hz sample rate, 192 kbps bitrate; and automatically split tracks.- Advanced mode allows you to convert from any analog audio source into MP3s or WAV files, and burn them to Audio CDs or MP3 CDs; and also lets you edit audio clips into multiple tracks, remove static, and adjust the volume of each track. This mode allows more control, editing of audio tracks, and allows you to save audio in different formats and quality: WAV (Mono/Stereo and 44100/48000 Hz sample rate) or MP3 (Mono/Stereo and 44100/48000 Hz sample rate, 64/96/128/160/192/224 Kbps bitrate)- One recommendation would be to use a higher quality, better shielded, audio RCA stereo cable to connect your audio device to the unit for best results.Note, as with any analog to digital conversion it will take time to convert your collection of vinyl, cassettes, 8-tracks, etc.

It is important to read reviews carefully when purchasing anything these days. I mean, really read them, and read between the lines to save yourself the trouble. Most of the good reviews on this product seem to suggest that they intend on using but have not actually tested it. Unfortunately, I agree with the few negative reviewers based on my personal experience, and legitimately tested Vidbox Audio Recorder software on three different computers because I have valuable and professional music recordings on cassettes that I have been paying for quality conversions and could've really used this product if it had worked.VIDBOX DID NOT WORK.Yes, I met the system requirements. Yes, I am tech savvy and use advanced software such as Pro Tools, In Design and many other advanced and technical applications. Vidbox is Idiot proof and fundamentally easy to install, set up and use. You can even use the step-by-step wizard, which is paint by numbers simplistic. But the end result is it did not work. A huge disappointment and waste of time.VIDBOX WASN'T VIABLE FOR MEI tested the software with Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, the adapter provided and a fully functional Insignia Boombox, and installed this on two desktops and one laptop with the same results. Nothing. Epic failure. I could not hear any sound, even though sound was working with all other applications and computers. The product is supposed to work with this hardware setup (as pictured on the box) and outlined in the directions.I CONTACTED TECH SUPPORTAfter registering the product, I contacted tech support to resolve my issue before posting a negative review. The response was: "Please check your windows audio mixer to make sure the software is not muted."Really???I had already checked that and wasted two hours troubleshooting before contacting Vidbox support. Again, sound and settings on my computer were not the issue. When I fired back an instant email and stated that I already tried that prior to contacting tech support, I didn't get any response and tech support went dark. The issue was never resolved. I decided to not waste anymore time with Vidbox and found a few similar reviewers that experienced the same issues I had, after asking: "Is it just me....?"As a rule, I do not like to write bad reviews and try my best to troubleshot and resolve issues on my end before I do, however I was disappointed in the Vidbox Audio Recorder, wanted it to work and decided to not waste any more time with it. I would leave professional audio transferring to a professional. I'll give it two stars to be kind because the software installation was a breeze, but the end result is it did not work. I promptly uninstalled Vidbox on all my computers.
