This unit is great, I've been using it as an (always on) pedal in my guitar chain for a couple of years now. It makes everything sound great. I've just bought a 2nd to add to my mixer effects chain for use with vocal compression. This unit really is the best value Optical Compressor compressor available. Its a pedal I recommend to every guitarist.

I am extremely impressed by this optical compressor. It is smooth sounding, very natural. It provides a nice even sustain, and is very transparent - there is no 'quack' associated with the compression, even at high compression settings. It's quiet and has superb signal integrity - I basically have it at the front of my pedal chain, and it is an "on all the time" effect. The EQ is useful and subtle, but most of the time I just have it set around 12 o'clock and it's clean as a whistle.I also own an empress compressor and a boss CS2, and this is actually my favorite of the 3. I love the fact I can get more gain and sustain from the input of my amp (JCM800) without it actually sounding squashed or compressed.I am a big fan of optical compression; I feel it's just more natural sounding than OTA based compression. This is a great little example of how optical compression should sound! For this price you cannot go wrong.
