Turn Lead to Gold with the Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone Micro. Famous for its noiseless clean sustain, the Philosopher's Tone stands out as a uniquely powerful guitar effect in the crowded world of compressor pedals. The Philosopher's Tone Micro packs all of the optical compression and unrivaled sustain of the original award winning Pigtronix pedal into a micro size chassis that runs on standard 9V external power. In addition to VOLUME and SUSTAIN controls, the Philosopher's Tone Micro features a parallel BLEND knob that allows the musician to mix their instrument's original tone with the compressed sound effect. This technique restores natural pick-attack and allows more extreme sustain settings to remain musical. The TREBLE control provides up to 6db cut or boost at 2KHz for fine tuning the frequency response of the effect. The Philosopher's Tone Micro features True-bypass switching and internal 18V power rails for maximum clean headroom, even when used with hot pickups and line level signals. Practitioners of the mystical and ancient art of alchemy long sought an element called the Philosopher's Stone, believing that, if found, it could turn lead into gold and bestow immortality upon the person who wielded it. The Philosopher's Tone Micro represents an analog musical equivalent to this mythical substance in the world of guitar. "People have been trying to get clean sustain from a pedal for decades, and the alchemists at Pigtronix seems to have found the secret to make it happen."-Art Thompson, Guitar Player Magazine Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone Micro Effects Pedal Features: Noiseless Clean Sustain Blend control for Parallel Compression Treble EQ for Boost or Cut at 2kHz Runs on standard 9V external power Internal 18V power for max headroom True Bypass switching Size = 3.75" x 1.5" x 1.75"

With this, I've finally been able to get the long, saturated sustain I've been looking for, aided by my TC Electronic noise gate pedal, which gets rid of what little noise the compressor ads.

Well built and likely to be an "always-on" pedal on my board. The Blend knob is a must allowing you to mix your uncompressed signal into the sound and a treble knob to brighten the compressed sound if required.

Certain songs call for an extended sustain and preferably a clear sound. This does it. It also can make a PRS Piezo sound even more like a Taylor acoustic by adjusting the tone, which allows you to leave the Taylor at home.

A very good little compressor. The build quality is adequate, and it has almost no self noise. The Sustain knob is quite bunched up, as its often the case, and a lot of the boosting happens in the last quarter, so you have to set it carefully. As I said it has very little self noise but of course it will amplify your instrument’s noise at high settings. It is not a character comp, if you want a very squashed, clicky, bouncy sound it might not be the right pedal, but for general pedalboard taming duty, without adding noise as many compressors do, and at a good price it works just great.

I've gone through a number of boosts and I like this pedal the best. I does a great job supporting my strat and it really pairs well with overdrives. I like it without the grit knob of the original (the grit of the Xotic when you turned it was an issue as well for me) preferring to control the gain with the overdrive or distortion. Overall I am pretty pleased with it.

I have an old DynaComp that was given to me by a family member, but I could never find settings I liked. It was just so dark. I researched a bit into the types of guitar compression available in pedal form and how each behaved. This led me to realize I should avoid any "Ross" style compressors. This one is optical, which is a bit more gentle it seems. Add in the treble knob to keep things clear and a blend knob to keep some original pick transients and it's heaven.
