I use these for catching catfish from the shore. They work great, and I have caught a lot of fish. Since I want to heave the line out into the deeper water, I started with 2oz sinkers which helped me cast far out from the shore. I was missing a few bites, as on occasion the hook setter wasn't strong enough to drag the sinker far enough to set the hook. I dropped down to 1oz sinkers but wasn't able to cast the line out far enough to get into the deeper water. So, I changed to 1-1/2oz sinkers, which are perfect. They are a heavy enough sinker to heave a good bait out to the drop-off, and light enough that the hook setter can drag it to set the hook. My previous hook setters were designed so that the rod in the hook setter was up at a 45-degree angle which was good when fishing at night with the tip up with bite indicator lights and bells. These hook setters are designed so the rod in the hook setter is very low, as in parallel to the water. I would prefer that the rod tip was higher and have deducted one star for that reason. Otherwise, they work fine.

No instructions but simple to put together and use. Hooked a trout 5 minutes after I threw it in - while I was setting up the second rod. Don't kneel behind it, keep your hands out of the way once you set it. A little too long to carry in my jacket assembled but worth carrying.

This is a well built item. Good metal construction and easy to assemble and operate. You do have to play with the tightness of the screw nuts. Once you find that sweet spot you are set. Works awesome in windy days at the lake. You can further set the sensitivity by setting the trip flag to a middle setting. Very pleased with this item and do recommend it.

These are very sturdy built . Seems of a good quality and work well . Just be very careful when setting these …. Keep your hands and other body parts away once this is set . The springs are very strong and you might have some bruised or broken fingers if getting hit . Don’t let your kids or pets to play around it . This is not a toy by any means . Does a good job if handled correctly. I’m only using these when fishing with more than one rod , or when I go fishing during the night . Easy to put together , I only wish the spikes were longer and came with some rubber protection on the sharp tips . Other than that , I like the product . The price was fair . I would buy again if needed.
