Fantastic little board offering a unique combo of the ESP32, screen and microSD all in a little thumb drive sized device. Demo code included is pretty slick and does pickup on the microsd card's capacity. Screen is nice and bright easy to read despite its size. I also like that they included an RGB onboard LED for status or other effects.Pulling the demo zip file includes a set of images you can put on a microsd card's root and the board will run its demo with them. Impressively quick refresh and it cycles the images and surprising fidelity on the images, it's a nice little screen.First demo just pushing PNGs using the recommended library worked great, again surprisingly zippy. The LVGL demo was fine too. Nice to have some documentation to point you in the right direction. My only slight beef is the included header is nice but its a bit of a bear to try and solder on so i am not quite sure about the usefulness. but you could socket on a second board for additional funcaitonailty in the same footprint.Overall, excellent documentation feature packed board for project work or learning, versatility of available pins for extra projects. It's ultra compact and has a ton of potential.

The product comes boxed and in an antistatic bag, with two optional headers. It’s important to note that it also comes completely bare. Using a free 3D printable case found online makes it look much nicer as well as durable. While this product comes with documentation on the Waveshare Wiki, I’m new to ESPs and haven’t yet been able to test its performance. It runs well with the example code, however. A microSD card isn’t included, of course, but the integrated slot works well.

As someone who started out with expensive Stamp microcontrollers and later even more expensive stuff from MAKE, I can remember that the first few steps are the hardest and most expensive. Never knowing what you need, what anything you're looking at is capable of, of what a fair price is.With this, you'll get something that connects to your computer effortlessly (when you move on to arduinos, you'll learn that a long or poorly made cable will cause all kinds of annoying seemingly random errors), that has easy visual feedback (without having to worry about serial terminals and baud rates), and with great examples you can modify to learn how all the pieces fit together -- all without having to learn about stuff like debouncing, pull ups/downs, and other annoying gotchas.Being able to learn discreet pieces of a complex system without a bunch of hidden landmines is a huge benefit, and in that respect , this affordable all-in-one introduction does an excellent job.Highly recommended to anyone looking to get in to designing and playing with electronics.

Consigliato

This is your standard ESP32-S3, but with a small display already attached and ready for use. It also has a TF card slot for external storage options. It has 13 I/O pins and includes male pin headers. Should you wish to use the pin headers, you'll need a fine soldering tip as there's not a lot of clearance to get your iron on the pad and pin and apply solder to the joint. The screen is clear and bright, but on the smaller side. It does not have touch capability. Waveshare has a pretty good documentation wiki that also includes sample code to get you up and running. Overall, I have no complaints with this device.
