The looks and the quality of these string mute dampeners are not good, but I was more interested in how they did their jobs. That was not great either. As another reviewer mentioned, the outer strings receive a denser pressure through some extra pieces on the inside, but there is a gap in those pieces towards the middle. I really wonder why they did it that way.Overall, not very good, but manageable. The price of $11 CAD (discounted from $12) for a pack of 2 at the time of writing was good though.

Fret mutes like these operate on a pretty basic principle. Once it’s secured on the neck, the combination of foam and terry material will physically dampen the string’s travel and prevent it from ringing out. When you want to play open notes or chords, just slide it back behind the nut. When you want the strings muted, simply slide it back in front of the nut to muffle unwanted noise.These mutes are functional, but I wasn’t terribly impressed by them. The overall build quality is fair, but performance isn’t the best. They’re smaller than other products and don’t mute as well. The colour is also odd, being much more brown than orange (see comparison photos with my Rockhouse mute).I tested them on three guitars (a six-string, a seven-string, and an acoustic) and two basses (a four- and a five-string). They generally performed acceptably, but aren’t as effective as others I’ve used. The material isn’t as strong or thick, and the internal foam is cut in two pieces through the middle. Even though they dampen the outer strings, they lift up in the center and leave other strings free to resonate. Compared to my other mutes, these are quite inferior.I found inserting an eraser or nail clipper under the strap helped mute the strings a bit better (see photo), but that really shouldn’t be necessary. I also had to tighten them significantly more than other mutes, and that tends to make the outer edges act like a capo instead of muting the strings.If you play with a lot of gain and need something to help reduce sympathetic vibration behind the nut, these could be an option. If you’re a tapper or shredder and want something to prevent open strings from ringing out these will work, but there are better options available. Bassists looking for the flat 60’s muted tone could make use of these but, again, other products do it better.At $11.99, they’re priced attractively, but this is a case of getting what you pay for. Build quality and performance aren’t as good as my Rockhouse mutes, and I think paying the extra $2 each is more than worth it in the long run. I’d recommend shopping around a bit before buying.My rating: 3.5 stars

Material is good, inner strap is soft so looks like it won't scratch the guitar finish. Haven't tried it on the guitar yet , but looks like it'll work as described. Will probably buy more if it works well.

They are ok for the price, they feel cheap and the color is different from what they advertise they are brown not orange.
