This is fantastic for flattening your whetstones.Don't use it for actual blade stock removal and keep it for stones. It will last a long long time.I used a chunk of aluminum to fix it to for some extra weight and something to hold on to, sure you can buy a base for it too, but I happened to have the exact size, so why not?Just remember to thoroughly wash it as soon as you're done flattening.

Secondo me per spianare le pietre e` eccezionale, si impiega davvero pochissimo tempo per farle tornare piane. Super cosigliata.

I bought this Dimond plate and it was shipped in a bubble mailer. It was not packed for shipping properly and it was dented in and the Dimond plate was lifted up in one corner making it no longer flat. I was disappointed and returned it. I bought another two from Lee Valley and they shipped it in a box with packing for protection. I really like these stones. They are Fantastic.

Very high end plate. I've been using mine for months and it's not shown much wear. They're super flat, they cut fast and these have replaceable faces which is a plus. You can buy a 140 grit plate, and a 400 grit replacement face and stick it on the other side and you have a dual side diamond plate for half the price of most other diamond plates. They're great for reprofiling, edge repair, or flattening whetstones.

If you want the ultimate flattening for your whetstones, then the 140 Atoma is the best choice. This plate will flatten any whetstone with very little effort. This thing will flatten any dished/warped whetstone in no time. Reason being, the 140 grit rating is extremely aggressive and removes A LOT of material really quickly. You can even use it as plate to sharpen, re-profile and thin knives with, but I find it leaves a very scratchy finish with how aggressive the 140 diamond grit is. Personally, I use it only to flatten my whetstones. Anything below 1000 grit, I'll use the Atoma 140. Since it is so aggressive, I find it will leave some heavy scratches in your whetstone with how aggressive it is. So make sure to grab a Nagura to smooth out the surface. Anything above 1000 grit, I'll use the Atoma 400, which leaves a more smooth finish. Plus since it is a diamond plate, this thing will never warp so you'll know you will always have perfect flatness when it comes to flattening your whetstones. Get this if you're serious about keeping your whetstones perfectly flat. Pricing I found was all over the place online, I got this for just shy of $85, which is a steal when I've found on other online retailers for almost $150+.

Absolutes Profi Werkzeug.

This stone is amazing. I don't need a 140 for sharpening as a generality, but this stone is fantastic for multiple other jobs. Including leveling other stones. You can bring pitted stones back to level in about 2 min with this thing. Also great for taking chips out of a blade. Cuts super fast. All in all, no downsides to this stone. Will buy again if this wears out.

This really speeds up the whetstone flattening process (I use it only for flattening). I'm not going to use this for metal grinding/bevel reprofiling so I can ensure it keeps it's "bite" for as long as possible since some of the denser whetstones still take a good amount of work to flatten. I used to go outside and spend much more time/effort flattening my stones on a flat slab of concrete in my back yard and/or using sandpaper or drywall sanding mesh on top of my granite kitchen counter. The time and hassle this Atoma #140 plate saves me compared to that was well worth the high price tag (especially considering living in Canada, going outside in the cold/snow to do this wasn't fun, and decent wet-dry sandpaper replacement costs do add up over time.Although fairly pricey, I highly recommend the Atoma #140 if you have multiple whetstones and sharpen often.
