This is my second Dremel. I had one years ago but lost it in a barn fire. I purchased this newer one a couple years ago with some gift money from the holidays and love the tool. It is truly a time saver on many varying projects. They have so many tool attachments of tons of applications. As a maker/blacksmith/bladesmith/wood worker/crafter, I work with wood, steel, copper, glass, kydex, and leather. Here's the short list of things I have done or plane to do with my Dremel:--Grind and shape details in metal.--Route out, grind and shape openings in wood for knife/blade handles or scabbards.--Grind--Buff coin rings after pressing and shaping them.--Polish small areas that other tools can't reach in wood and metal.--Drill holes at awkward angles that a normal drill can't reach.--Drill/grind holes in glass...getting ready to make a vacuum chamber in a large glass jar and the diamond bits with help immensely with this.--Cut outlet holes in drywall or wood.--Carve words in wood for a plaque.--Polish copper spoons. If you are a crafter or maker of any kind, you need this tool. I also have a Harbor Freight 'multitool' that I picked up at a garage sale...really doesn't hold a candle to the Dremel. It saves me so much time on detail projects and also some larger projects that I didn't even realize until I had it. Used to have a Zip Saw...don't need it the Dremel can do it. I have a router but I usually use the little one with the Dremel. (Granted, I'm not making moulding or trim with it.)Very happy with this purchase.

I have been using rotary tools for a while. When my old store-brand unit broke, I decided to upgrade to the leader in rotary tools, that being the Dremel. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.I opted for a corded unit because I use the flexible extension for carving and sanding. Several things separate this item from others.1.) Build Quality - you can feel the difference between the Dremel and others. It is particularly noticeable when using the flexible shift2.) Speed - My previous item had variable speed but with the Dremel it is slower at the minimum speed and faster at the higher speed3.) Speed Marking - it is easy to adjust the speed and, unlike others that I have seen, the Dremel has a gauge to tell you if you are at 5,000 RPM or 30,000 RPM4.) This kit includes enough accessories to handle most jobs. Once you get used the tool you can purchase other tools (e.g. my kids got me the stand for my B-Day) but this is a great starter kit that will last a while.I haven't used the case since I got the tool, but keep it nearby so that it is available, if needed.Recommend this model of Dremel, with this kit. You won't regret the purchase.

When a brand becomes synonymous with the product (for example, Kleenex, Google, Dremel), you know there must be a reason. It probably has to do as much with quality and performance, as it does with market share, but a lot of times when someone is talking about a Dremel, they could just mean rotary tool.I had purchased a very inexpensive rotary tool from one of the big Canadian stores, and it worked great for a while (a couple of months) until the collet stopped unscrewing, leaving me with no option but to only use the one bit stuck in it.So, I finally decided to just get the one I wanted in the first place. I haven't had the Dremel long, but I already love it.First things first, I expected this set to have the Dremel in the carrying case and then have a bunch of other attachments (the 6/50) in a separate box. That was an incorrect assumption.Actually, the case that comes with this is specifically built for the attachments, so they all have a spot where they can be put back.Next, the attachments that come with this are probably the best overall combination of things that any home/hobby user would want.I'm not a professional handyman by any means, but a decent DIY'er so it's good to get attachments like the flexi-shaft, the planer, the garden tool sharpener, circle cutter, and plunge bit/multipurpose cutting kit.I just wish the description actually listed everything you get. For instance, I ended up ordering the EZ lock mandrel (EZ402) separately, because I didn't know it was included.Otherwise, everything performs as you would expect - it's a powerful little unit for the price, and a good medium ground for most. Perhaps trying out a cheaper, knock-off version is a good idea and lets you know whether you'll be needing one of these. So if you don't have room for a full workshop, this should suffice for most little (and some bigger) jobs. The only other thing I would say is that I ordered the following items separately, because I think they will nicely round off everything I think I'll want to do with this tool:MultiPro Keyless Chuck (4486) - to more easily change accessoriesQuick Change Collet Nut Kit (4485) - just figure it will be a good complement to the keyless chuckMini Saw Attachment (670) - it can be a mini saw!Right Angle Attachment (575) - for tight/awkward spaces1-1/2-Inch EZ Lock Wood Cutting Wheel (544) - specifically to cut wood1-1/2-Inch EZ Lock Diamond Wheel (EZ545) - to cut a variety of materials

Great Little Tool.I purchased the 4000 6-50. However, when it arrived the accessory parts kit was obviously from another packaged kit, probably the 4000 3/30. I phoned Dremel customer support, talked to someone immediately, and within a week had the right accessory package complete, delivered right from Racine WI. Super fast service without a complaint. Next I was cutting large circles on 3/4" MDF. Broke 2 cutting tools number 561. Phoned Dremel and the rep said I should leave over 1/8 out of the chuck, beyond the flutes. Did so and haven't broken one since. Great support.I was worried about using such a small tool. My router is Porter Cable 690, the table saw carries a 12 inch blade and I've owned 2 Canadian Tire Mastercraft knock-off rotary tools before. I literally threw one across the shop floor. By comparison this little Dremel is fantastic. I bought it to do a one-off project, but have ended up using it for so many other things that I hadn't even considered before. Like putting the finishing touches on my lathe tools (lathe knives). I mostly cut nylon, 6061 T-6 aluminum and a light gauge stainless for my brackets and fittings. We do ultra-light aircraft and I am working on some aerial borne systems. I've even let out holes out of my large shop sanding disks with this thing. It will remove large quantities of material in tight places that would have taken a very long time to do by hand. I ordered the bits for stainless sheet but haven't tried them yet.Now the down side. Accessories like the circle guide are substandard. I had to side cut two 3/16" X 3/4" bolts to jam either side of the circle cutter point to keep it from moving along the track. I built another circle cutter because this one is faulty. I also ordered, and received a StewMac router base as I had read in another review that the Dremel router base was less than good. Also Dremel should have used a better quality electrical cable. This one can kink. I also ordered the right angle drill, for tight places but haven't used it yet.In short I like to consider myself doing professional quality work of a very high standard. I should have bought one of these things a long time ago. You have to learn to let the rpm's do the work and not torque into it. I use 2 together of the junky little thin fibre metal blades so as to save the more costly EZ blades for more import work. This combination can cut 3/16 304 stainless solid round bar where a pipe cutter will not work and material is saved as the kerf taken out is so thin. I have used other grinding stones to lightly debur the inside of aluminum tube prior to riveting.A good list of attachments with cutting profiles and speed ranges and knowledgeable support are not something you get with a poor quality company. Also, if you're doing very critical router work order a foot switch from Busy Bee or somebody. The On/Off trigger switch takes your hand away from supporting the body properly on start-up and the torque can mar the stock. I ordered a lot of additional cuttings tools at the same time as I bought the 4000. Dremel sent me price a price list from Racine and in future I'll order direct. The cutting bits are high quality. Bit changes are fast.Sorry this is so long. I was really impressed. This is not a piece of junk.hoovs
