After working with other versions of the ESP32, I came to appreciate this version much more, since there are many more pins available to use. I returned the others and will stick to this brand.

Works great! This is a 5V ESP32 with a different pinout - pay attention to the pinout image provided by the seller. USB-C support is superb but make sure you are using a data-capable USB-C cable, as many are power only.I used the ESP32-WROOM-DA board in the Arudino IDE (2.3.*), available after you add the ESP32 library.

the product is great and its good that they fully expose the pins on the esp32 but it took a very long time figuring out the pinouts from googling online. would be nice to have know the esp chip and then the corresponding pins to a standard esp dev board

Basic NodeMCU32 board. Works well, easy to set up. Love the USB-C option instead of the micro USB.. makes it easier to keep cables managed. No issues with getting it to recognize the board, sketches upload with no issues. Just be aware that the unit needs to be put into download mode when uploading sketches, so you have to hold the BOOT button when you upload or it will error out. Otherwise, good price for a decent board.
