The 400 grit paper held up well allowing me to level the frets on two acoustic guitars. The size is great to cover a good number of frets at once but not so many as to not have good control over the area being sanded. I purchased a roll of stick on sandpaper thinking the paper on this block would not last but was pleasantly surprised that it did.

I have the 6" sanding beam. the corners are smoothed and there's a plastic "gasket" on both openings. the gasket is quite flimsy and will eventually come off I suspect. I've peeled off one side to add a different grit and it was very difficult to remove. however, for $10 this is a very handy tool for smoothing and leveling. You can also make one out of wood if you want to save the $10.
