The thawed area also allows oxygen to re-enter the pond. Safe for plastic and liner ponds, the De-Icer will not harm fish or plants. The unit includes a highly visible LED pilot light that indicates when it's on, a 315-watt heating element that melts snowfall on contact allowing clear visibility of the LED light, a thermostatically-controlled on/off feature that prevents overheating and saves energy costs, and a 7 m (22 ft) electrical cord with grounded plug.

EDIT: Upgraded from one to 3 stars. The product works well when it's actually functional. I sent a warranty claim in to Hagen, the manufacturers of Laguna products. They got back to me promptly and after submitting evidence (video of the heater repeatedly tripping the GFCI) and my invoice, they have said a replacement is on the way at no charge to me.Heater has failed in just under 3 months of use. Installed mid-November, by first week of Feb it's failed. It keeps tripping the GFCI. I'm now in a bind and have to leave my pond frozen over until I can get a new one in a few days. Hopefully my fish don't die.

Works great. I like the red light that tells me when it is on. Clears a large area of ice.Well constructed with a heavy electrical cord that has a great amount of footage to reach an electrical outlet.Highly recommend this product.

When you look at my photo's, these pictures were taken about 3 days apart. The temperature on each day hovered in the high teens to mid-20s with lots of wind!My pond shortly after a snow built up a 6-inch thick layer of ice (Left Side Picture), which my filter (Seen peeking out the top) left me a small port/hole to keep open.I have several fish, which are all fine!Took 3 days to defrost it as a whole, but it worked exactly as it said it would. Highly recommend this overall for similar setups.

This is the best pond heater I have ever had. I have a small 100 gallon preformed pond and it has kept it completely thawed despite frigid temperatures. Most other pond heaters I have had only keep a small circle around it thawed. I also like that it has a light on the top so you can tell it’s working. Totally worth the price.

We had an aquascape heater for ice protection in our pond (12’ x 12’ x2.5’) and it died after 2 years. This one is half the price and is doing a good job of keeping the ice at bay. We’ll see when it gets to -20 but I’m optimistic it will work. The only issue is longevity. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I have had success with this brand before. The most recent unit lasted a couple of seasons. So when it failed I bought another one a month or so ago. I installed it and it worked at first, melting a partial hole in the ice. Then it stopped heating and froze into the ice. I had to melt it out with boiling water. Troubleshooting steps did not fix it. So I returned it for a replacement. The new unit arrived a week or so ago and I installed it. It seemed to work fine. But then I noticed the led light has been on every time I looked at it. Even during a warm spell when all ice in the pond melted. I installed a wattage meter between the outlet and heater plug that has confirmed that power has been used continuously over the past 24 hours. So the thermostat definitely does not work on the replacement unit. In this case, two strikes and you are out. There seems to be a manufacturing quality problem. I have requested a refund and will purchase from another manufacturer in the future.

Plug in for winter, place in your pond to prevent freezing over and trapping of gas, little red light on top tells you it’s working

Let me start by saying this heater seems to be one of the better designs out there, but not perfect. It does a good job of staying level. It melts surrounding ice well.I like the added hook for aeration hose to keep the bubbler and heater close to each other. The only problem is it never turns off. Not sure where the temp sensor is on the heater but it seems like its not in the right spot as this heater will melt the entire pond surface. Granted my fish pond is smaller, but I would expect the power to cycle once a 4-6 inch area has been melted. Looks like I will need to add a timer to restrict it from running 24/7.

The reviews were great and product worked, as in it did keep a small hole open through the winter. I was surprised at how small it was compared to pictures I had seen of the product online. Today I unplugged it and removed the heater from the pond to switch out for a skimmer. I noticed rust staining and also a visible crack in the heater as I was cleaning it up to put away for the season. It was not dropped. The return window is closed. First and last Laguna product I will ever buy. Should have stuck with Aquascape. Very disappointed and a huge waste of 100.00. Don't waste your time and money on this product. Coincidentally, my pond started foaming a week ago. This has never happened before which makes me wonder if it was caused by whatever was leaching out of the heater. You can hear water in the heater if you shake it. Junk.Update May 17, 2023.I contacted Laguna directly as the heater has a one year warrantee. Their technical team advised that the damage was caused by an accident and not covered. The original shipping box had no damage and I did not have an accident and drop the heater. I have ordered a new metal Aquascape heater for this winter. Aquascape stands behind their products unlike Laguna. Do not buy this product.
