Useless. Simple piece of sponge under strings works better.

I returned this because it's really a silencer and not a mute. It completely dampens the strings, even after a number of adjustments. There's nothing wrong with that, I just believe that this should be advertised completely as a 'silencer' and to have any semblance of the word 'mute' removed. This item removes all sound completely. If that's what you are after, just know that that's the case when purchasing this item. If you are looking for a 'mute', which would imply a dampening or attenuation of the sound instead, this is definitely not the item you are after.There may be times when I would wish to use a silencer for my guitar playing, but that's not what I was looking for with this particular purchase based on what's in the title and description. I think that this misunderstanding is the only reason why this item presently only has 3.2 stars as I can imagine other people may have thought the same. It otherwise functions well as a silencer, is well-made, is a good value, and would likely not damage or scratch a nylon string classical guitar if used carefully.
